Favorite obscure video games

Maniac Mansion! I don't know if anyone remembers it, but it was originally for PC then came out for Nintendo back in the late 80's early 90's. You could choose 2 or 3 characters (I think) from out of about 7 and you got to go into this mansion where you could explore virtually everything. It had witty responses for just about every action you attempted. It just seemed ahead of its time.

I spent hours playing and replaying Maniac Mansion (which was originally launched on the Commodore 64), and its' sequel Day of the Tentacle--in fact, I still play Maniac Mansion.

I think any Ron Gilbert adventure by Lucasfilm Games (now LucasArts) are considered classics, like The Secret of Monkey Island and Zak McKraken and the Alien Mind Benders, .

i shall let the video speak for me!

You are The Man!

Another one I still enjoy to this day is Legaia 2: Duel Saga for the PS2. The series debuted as Legend of Legaia on the original Playstation, but I have yet to play that one. Legaia's battle system differs from most role playing games in that you don't just have a standard "attack" command. You have to utilize the up, down, left, right controls in specific sequences to learn new attack combos. Those combos are known as "Arts". In Legaia 2, you start with 2 Art blocks to enter commands into, and are able to gain as many as 14 by the end of the game. It's at that time that you can string your most powerful combos together to pummel your enemies. This is one series I wish they'd continue and given a bigger budget. If done right, I believe it could become a big hit.

Phantasmagoria - PC

Bonks Adventure - Turbo Grafix 16

Ice Hockey - NES

That one is great but I like a different game that came from the Black Isle company a bit better. 🙂

Fallout 2 😀

Sorry, I should of posted this...

Some of my favourite obscure games include:

Shadow of the Colossus (PS2)

Katamari Damacy (PS2)

Buck Bumble (N64)

ActRaiser (SNES)

Magical Drop I - III (Arcade)

Claymates (SNES)

Snail Shell

Does anyone remember the game I'm about to describe? I really wish someone could tell me the name so I can go buy it to play.

It was a hedgehog or animal of some sort and you were fighting crime gangs in a city. The crime unit kidnapped the mayors daughter and it was your job to bring her back. The unique aspect of the game was that you picked up cans of hairspray and it would change your hairdo. You would use that hairdo to fight with it or help you in different ways. (The mohawk was kind of like a sword on your head, pigtails helped you swing from grappling hooks in the ceiling, etc.)

Anyone know the name?

Sorry, I do not. It sounds like fun, though. Do you recall which format this game was played on? That could help narrow it down.

Man, did any of you guys play that one 90's game where you played as the 7-up spot? It was such a cheesy and pointless game but I loved for some reason!

Look at him. He simply screams hero material.

YES! YES YES YES!!!!! Cool Spot!!! WIN! FAVORITE! I'M NOW IN LOVE WITH YOU! (not really, don't freak out)

Commander Keen

Phantasmagoria

I also love the Katamari games. So addicting. The best part is trying to describe it to someone else. "You see, you roll around and ... pick up ... stuff."

Edit: OH! AND CLAYFIGHTERS!

Rocket Knight Adventures (genesis)

Comix Zone (genesis)

Startropics (NES)

Wild Guns (SNES)

Sunset Riders (SNES)

Splatterhouse 2 (genesis)

Earthbound (SNES)

The Guardian Legend (NES)

several more Im not mentioning cause there kinda slipping my mind at the moment.

I'm fairly certain it was for the snes.

As for the 7up game, my brother and I rented that all the time. This thread brings back great memories for me. I'm a video game addict. Except we didn't rent it for Genesis, nintendo was our consol of choice.

Glad I could oblige. 🙂 I've always loved my video games, too. I might be 2 weeks away from turning 30, but I'll always be a kid at heart.

I'm not really a "gamer" per se , but I used to play a lot when I was a kid. Now , I'm not sure if any of these games are considered obscure , but they are pretty old & probably mostly forgotten :

- Commando , Excitebike , & Track & Field for NES

- NBA Showdown '94 & Streets of Rage for Sega Genesis
