Allright, I'm a huge stand-up comedy fan. Like ridiculous.

Therefore, who are some of your favorite acts? Either people you've seen live, or heard on CD, or seen on Comedy Central or HBO or some such.

At the moment, I have to say my favorite is Lewis Black. If you havent heard him yet, be ashamed. Then go out and hear some of his stuff. If the name doesn't ring a bell, he's the middle aged angry guy who yells a lot. He also points a lot, as Im sure Mimi will describe in greater detail. 🙂

Either way, he's got DVD's, CD's, a book out now (highly recommended), and he can be seen once a week or so on the Daily Show. He's hilarious, and I think everyone should enjoy his work a little more.

I'm sure I'll be back with others. But who are some of your favorites?

When I was a kid, Don Rickles and Buddy Hackett were my favorite solo comics. George Burns and Gracie Allen were my favorite pair, closely followed by Abbott and Costello.

Among those younger than I am, Jerry Seinfeld.

Hmmmm.... not necessarily in this order or all still with us, but.........

Bill Cosby
Red Skelton
George Burns
Carol Burnette
Bob Newhart
Victor Borge
Steve Martin
Mark Russell
Abbott & Costello
Ellen DeGeneres
Jerry Seinfeld
Robin Williams (his older style)

Plus, others that don't come to mind at the moment. If I had to pick just one, I honestly don't think I could. I tend to enjoy those who talk about real life and let you laugh at yourself. Those who use put-downs or vulgarity or who yell about everything to get a laugh don't impress me.

I am at a tie between Jim Gaffigan, Richard Jeni, and the late great Mitch Hedberg. I think most have heard of Hedberg but not as many have heard of the other two. If you have a chance to listen to them, by all means tune in, they are absolutely hysterical!

LOVE Lewis Black~saw him live for my b-day.
Hmmm, who else?
Mario Cantone, Dave Chappelle, Chris Rock, Sam Kinison (R.I.P.)
XOXO

Obviously I love many of the classic and highly well known and successful comedians like many mentioned above. Lewis Black, George Lopez and Ron White are probably my three current favorites among the big names (I LOVE that crooked pissed off finger pointing Lewis does when he gets all riled up...hilarious!).

But there are three less known comedians who never fail to push me into hysterics whenever I see them perform their half hour stand-up routines. They are Brian Regan, Dane Cook, and Jeff Dunham (Jeff you may know through his vetriloquist act featuring Peanut the alien, Walter the old crabby man, and Jose the Jalapeno on a stick - "on a steeeeeeeeek").

Stand up comedy is always such a treat. There needs to be FAR more of it!!

Mimi 🙂

Bernard Manning, Jasper Carrot and Eddie Izzard are my favourites.

Bernard Manning? Eugh. Anyway, my fave is Lee Evans. Watching him probably gets you more exhausted than he does on-stage. He may be as sweaty as Pavarotti on a pogo stick, but boy he never gets tired.

My favorite comics would be Monty Python but they're not stand up really, so my crave and fave right now is Stephen Lynch. My bf got me into him and he cracks me up. And can sing really well. He's great if you haven't heard of him you should!

My favorite stand-up comics?......

Eddie Murphy (when he was doing stand-up)
Bill Cosby
Jerry Seinfeld
Steve Martin (again, when he doing stand-up)

And there's a fella called Kevin Meany who always makes me crack up out loud. His act is basically talking in an annoying voice imitating his mother scolding him. But this kills me everytime he does it. He once showed up at the end of the gameshow "Make Me Laugh" as their surprise comedian. He was out for 30 seconds and the woman lost it. I didn't last that long, lol.

Jay Leno! I'm vacationing to California next summer to see him live, and I'm looking forward to it. Some of his acts I enjoy are Headlines, Jay-Walking, and Ask the Fruitcake Lady.

NOT in order

Lewis Black
Bobby Collins
Howie Mandell(saw him recently on Comdey Channel and he was funny as hell!)
Richard Jeni
There are sooo many others

Easy, no contest........

......and well worth a look all you Americans, the great Al Murray "Pub Landlord" is the best in the business for my money.

And who could forget his fantastic pub quiz, called, "Fact Hunt".......yep, think about it.

Oh, I nearly forgot, he makes fun of Americans rather effectively, along with the Irish, Welsh, Scotts, French and Germans.

"I get no respect I tell ya!"

My favorite of all time is hands down the late great Rodney Dangerfield. Who could forget the famous bulging eyes and straightening of the tie..

"I bought a Apple computer the other day.. it had a worm in it!"

"The other day I stuck my head out the window to say hello to my friend.. I got arrested for mooning!"

He was always good for a laugh and I miss his comedy!

For my money, my favorites are:

Eddie Murphy
Dave Chappelle
Bernie Mac
D.L. Hughley
Sam Kinison (RIP)
Rodney Dangerfield(RIP)
Redd Foxx
Cedric the Entertainer

and how could any of you forget the legend

Richard Pryor??
