Favorite TV Show Theme Song

Man, Memory Lane is full of traffic today. All those theme songs bringing back great memories... but one that I just remembered and I loved the show because of Bill Cosby... "I Spy"! There's some great music. "Get Smart" was cool, too.

Ooooooooooooooooooooooooooh Rio~you can buy these on CD~they put out SEVERAL of 'em! 🙂

XOXO

The Mary Tyler Moore Show.

"How will you make it on your ooooooooooooown....."

Makes me smile when I hear it😀

The Sean Man

Thought I'd be the only one to mention "Greaest American Hero". Oh well!

The theme to "The Dick Van Dyke Show"

"Battlestar Galactica"

"The Avengers"

"M*A*S*H"

"The Outer Limits* (Still gives me chills).

And too many others to mention. 😀

Batman, Mash, and The Odd Couple. Also, the link to the classic TV theme songs doesn't seem to be working for me. Anyone got any ideas?

A couple of instrumental theme songs which I enjoyed were the themes to Hill Street Blues and The Incredible Hulk with Bill Bixby. Anybody remember the theme to Emergency? That was catchy, too.

And speaking of M*A*S*H. Not only do I love that song (and that show) but I have a humorous story to tell about that song.

When I was in high school, my mother gave me a subliminal message tape for self confidence/self esteem. All of the songs were popular songs in instrumental arrangements. I began to chuckle though when I heard the theme song for M*A*S*H. As some of you know, there are actual lyrics to that song and the title of the song is "SUICIDE IS PAINLESS". Do you think that my mom may have been trying to give me a different subliminal message??? 😀 😀 😀

SUICIDE IS PAINLESS
Music by Johnny Mandel Lyrics by Mike Altman

Through early morning fog I see
The visions of the things to be
The pains that are withheld from me
I realise and I can see

Suicide is painless
It brings on any changes
But I can take or leave it if I please

The game of life is hard to play
I’m gonna loose it anyway
But losing cards are some days late
So this is all I have to say

The sword of time will pierce our skin
It doesn’t hurt when it begins
But as it works it’s way on in
The pain grows stronger watch it grin

A brave man once requested me
To answer questions that I keep
Is it to be or not to be
And I reply oh why ask me?

And you can do the same thing if you please

I wasn't aware Quantum Leap was on in re-runs anywhere. I remember this show and used to really enjoy it. [/B]

Hey, ctft--I was so infatuated with both the cleverness of the show's concept and its star, Scott Bakula, that I still find Myself reciting the opening narrator lines, when I see the show on Sci-Fi:

"Theorizing that one could time travel within his own lifetime, Dr. Sam Beckett stepped into the Quantum Leap accelerator and vanished... He woke to find himself trapped in the past, facing mirror images that were not his own and driven by an unknown force to change history for the better. His only guide on this journey is Al, an observer from his own time, who appears in the form of a hologram that only Sam can see and hear. And so Dr. Beckett finds himself leaping from life to life, striving to put right what once went wrong and hoping each time that his next leap will be the leap home"

I don't think the complete series (which ran from '89-'93) has been released on DVD yet.

How many of you remember the theme song for Hawaii Five O? "Book him, dano."

Space, the final frontier. These are the voyages of the starship Enterprise.
It's continuing mission: to explore strange new worlds, to seek out new life and civilizations,
to boldly go where no one has gone before.

How could we miss STAR TREK?
😛

Funny this thread came up because I was going to make my own thread. This is for all you DBZ fans. The other day I picked up the DVD for DBZ: The Return of Cooler. I played the Japanese language version with American subtitles on. Now listening to the theme snong, which looks like the theme song and montage for the show as shown in Japan, I saw something strange. Not only does the words when translated to American have nothing to do with the show, there are things in there I really don't understand. At one point it says "If I found a dragon monster that had been trapped in an iceberg, I would teach it to stand on a ball and balance>' And then the song just got weird. Again, none of it had anything to do with anything in the show, or anythign that ever happened on the show. If anyone has this disc, please watch the Japanese version with american subtitles on and tell me if you think it the lyrics is the weirdest thing for a theme song you ever heard.

mgctouch regarding the Hawaii 5-0 theme

During the opening credits of Hawaii 5-0, when the theme song is playing and you see the canoe paddlers. The guy in the front is, or was (passed away a few years ago) my Uncle Henry.

And the Lyrics for the theme of MASH are the original lyrics sung in the movie, which the TV show was based on. The network couldn't have the lyrics for the show, so they just played the background music to the theme of the movie.

I don't know what it is with the M*A*S*H theme song that drives people cuckoo. (I happen to like it) When that song started to play, my Mom would shudder and say things like, "Oh, turn the channel. I can't stand that song!" and a friend of mine said that she'd always get a weird feeling when the song came on... only to find out later that the song had something to do with suicide, which, to her, explained the weird feeling. Another great TV theme song is "Cheers", where everybody knows your name.

The fact that the creators weren't serious when they made the series might have something to do with it.

Yes, they started Dragon Ball as a joke ( Son Goku means fat dude I think ). So ... just my two cents 🙄 😀

Boy, have you guys shaken some cobwebs off me!!!

My first thought was "I dream of Jeannie",
Then "Streets of San Francisco"
Welcome Back Kotter
Dallas
Dynasty
Falcon Crest
Bewitched
Hawaii five-O (one of my faves)
Shaft (loved Isaac Haye's music)

The list goes on and on............😀

Yeah, thanks Baron;

Now I'll have that stupid "Gilligan's Island" theme in my head the rest of the day!😛

Who remembers the theme from LOVE AMERICAN STYLE? Now THAT was a funny show!

Love, Love, Love

Love, American Style,
Truer than the Red, White and Blue.
Love, American Style,
That's me and you.

And on a star spangled night my love, (My love come to me).
You can rest you head on my shoulder.
Out by the dawn's early light, my love
I will defend your right to try.

Love, American Style,
That's me and you.

Ah yes, the show that actually led to Happy Days.

A couple of other shows that have yet to be mentioned, although I don't think were as great as many already listed here, but still good, were The andy Griffith Show (which actually does have words), the instrumental to Mork and Mindy, and the intro to Laverne and Shirley.

As for Gilligan's Island, how many people can do the closing song to the show?

Now this is the tale of our castaways,
There here for a long, long time
They'll have to make the best of things,
It's an uphill climb.

The first mate and his skipper too,
will do their very best,
to make the others comfortable
in a tropic island nest.

No phone, no motor car, not a single luxury,
Like Robinson Curosoe, as primitive as can be.
So join us here each week my friends,
You're sure to get a smile,
From seven stranded castaways,
Here on Gilligan's Isle.
