favourite christmas hit?

The Sean Man said:
I second that opinion. That last high note that Mariah hits is incredible

I also like "Do They Know It's Christmas?" by Band Aid.

yeha i third the mariah carey opinion - its a great festive pop song - the high note is great and the introduction shows how good her voice is in the lower ranger too. and the bit in the middle always gets my foot tapping.

i'd also like to add 'fairytale of new york' to the list - kirsty macoll and shane mcgowan made a great, if unlikely, vocal partnership.

also "christmas is all around" by Bill Nighy from one of my favorite movies Love Actually

and "carol of the bells" from home alone....not sure who did it

Nat Cole. The Christmas Song. The original, almost unplugged 1946 version.

Absolutely! This original version blows away Cole's stereo remake. The original is more jazzy.

"Baby Please Come Home" -- U2's version of it...

i haven't heard that one but i would like to - i love U2 - the Darlene Love/Phil Spector version of 'Baby please come home' is a stunning vocal performance - really great climax - the whole of the Phil Spector xmas album is great. A musical genius, shames hes up on a murder charge

Blue Christmas. Elvis. I'm not a Christian, but it's fun for listening and singing.

Fave Christmas songs

Dammit ... gotta make a decision now ...

Err ...

Okay. Jona Lewie, Stop the Cavalry. Any song with the lyric 'dubba dubba dum dum, dubba dubba dum, dubba dum dum dubba dum, dubba dubba dum' has to be in there. Wasn't even supposed to be a Christmas record until the suits got hold of it, either.

Ooh! And Christmas Rapping by err ... who was it? *Googles* The Waitresses. Cool song - love the brass section.

I'll throw my vote in on Fairytale of New York, too, for lyrical excellence and in memory of the sadly missed Kirsty McColl.

I could also support All I Want For Christmas Is You, but if I'm absolutely honest I'd support anything Mariah Carey sang in that Santa suit she's poured into. MMMMM.

Finally - this is my absolute all-time favourite, cracks me up every time.

(To the tune of 'walking in a winter wonderland')

Lacy things, the wife is missing
Didn't ask for her permission
I'm wearing her clothes, her silk pantyhose
Walking 'round in women's underwear

In the stores, there's a teddy,
With little straps, like spaghetti
It hold me so tight,
Like handcuffs at night,
Walking 'round in women's underwear

In the office, there's a guy named Melvin
He pretends that I am Murphy Brown,
He'll say are you ready, we'll say -Whoa, man!
At least until the wife is out of town.

Later on, if you wanna
We can dress, like Madonna
Put on some eyeshade, and join the parade,
Walkin 'round in women's underwear

Lacy things, missing
Didn't ask permission
I'm wearing her clothes, silk pantyhose
I'm walking around in women's underwear

Don't know who it's by, or where it's from, just makes me laugh. And isn't that what Christmas is all about?

The funny thing is that I've never heard the original of "Baby Please Come Home." U2's version can be found on the "Very Special Christmas, Vol. 1" album. I'm not usually a fan of holiday music, but that album is pretty good for this genre...

BTW, I love that parody, barefoot... lol
