Football thread (soccer)

With our victory over Liverpool in stoppage time, I say the title belongs to us now.

Now, C'mon Portsmouth!! :dogpile:

I'd say so, barring a major slip up by Man U, Chelsea are being held back by injuries and Arsenal are too far behind.

Relegation wise looks almost certain that West Ham are going down this season. Just hope they can bounce back. But they need a major player clear out.

West Ham have been shocking this season. I thought for sure that they would finish in the top half...

I'll be sad to see them go.

The more I think about it, I don't think Chelsea are completely out of it yet. They have a game in hand, and we still have to face them at stamford bridge. We just need to win our remaining games.

Yea I watched the West Ham v Spurs game yesterday I've never been so gutted after watching a game...we threw the lead away twice, Its sad but that game summed up our season really and showed that we have no chance of staying up.

As for the title I think the Chelsea - Man U game in April will be the title decider, but if chelsea drop any points before that i think it'll pretty much be over anyway. I cant see Man United screwing this up

Hey guys. I just found this thread! Brilliant! I'm A Blade, and I just wanna say good on you german for starting this!

Do you think the relegation to the championship has been decided? Do you think that the bottom three now will be the ones going down? Also, I'm glad to see that Man U are 9 points clear at the top - I've always said you can't buy the best team in the world, and since all that money has been invested in them my respect for them has dwindled. Also - Arsenal - WTF?!!! No English player was on the field in the final! Or am I wrong? Anyway, I think the Blades have got the ability to stay up. They proved their worth when they drew with Everton - I expected us to lose, like in so many matches. Well, bottoms up for the weekend's action!

I'm currently watching Chelsea and Porto in the Champions League, Live.

1-nil PORTO!!

C'mon Porto! Knock the blues out!

Ha ha! It's the only time I'm happy for an English club to be doing crap in the European League! Goos stuff.

Pretty sure there was at least one english player and that was Walcott they fielded there young side and I'm not sure of who else was in the starting 11 for the final.
I don't see the Blades being relegated to be honest couple of wins and draws will see you safe, surprised how well you lot have done this season, have been impressive.

Currently watching the Liverpool - Barcelona game

It's 1-0 Barcelona and not looking good for Liverpool

Bah, looks like Chelsea has won it 2-1. Aren't Liverpool still ahead on agg?

game finished 1-0 Barcelona so Liverpool went through on away goals...Quite a result that along with Lyon and Inter going out has left the tournament wide open, exciting stuff

Anyone see the Ballack goal...I missed the game and all replays thus far. Was it any good?

It was a great goal. He didn't have to do much though, the assist was the key to the play.

Can't wait for Man U/Lille 2nd leg tommorow =P

Thanks man...just saw it then on Eurosport - there was some spot on passing in that move.

Sorry but my attention will be in Munich

I'm a bit worried about Man U winning the prem now... thanks to some HUGE injury issues, and we don't have the depth that chelsea has...

All I have to say is, if we blow it, it'll be a massive upset.

Good luck to bayern! Hopefully Bayern and Man U will meet in the champions league. =P

Oh yea, one more thing... I hate to say this, but I honestly think that Drogba is a better player than Henry. Based on current form, the man is just unstoppable.

I have heard rumours that Henry will be leaving arsenal at the end of the campaign. Some lads have been saying a swap: Henry for Eto.

Well I think that Man U retain their strength very well, and it will take a lot to remove them from the top spot. I mean, Chelsea have to win 3 games and Man U lose 3 before they equal the points out. So, if it's gonna happen, it'll take a long time.

Yeah, I agree about Henry, He's had his day. He always looked drawn out and tired, and in a lot of Arsenal's games, he's not put in 100% to get the ball every time; he's happy to let it fall to his feet and then do something, rather than put a little effort into getting it back, like he used to. Also, if he played for a bigger team, he might be performing better. Arsenal had their moment of glory, but it was over as quick as it started. Well done to Liverpool - good to see that English club go through!

LARSSON! LARSSON! LARSSON!

A perfect farewell...

Glory Glory Man United!

Am I the only one that was shocked to see arsenal go out the way they did?

true man...its really opened up - pending on the draw anyone can win it now

Indeed. This is turning out to be one of the best Champions League Tourneys in recent memory.

Watched the Celtic - AC Milan game, and i felt celtic were quite unlucky to go out they played very well and had a good go at AC but Kaka showed his class and won the game with a nice finish, Although they looked dangerous going forward Milan are a shadow of the team they were, i'd be happy to get them if i was one of the other teams.

Although I hate Celtic and i used to hate Larsson, im glad to see he's finally getting the respect he deserves, because everyone in england is noticing what scottish fans have known for years, Larsson is a world class player, he'll be a big loss to Man U.

Good result for Bayern btw, i saw the first leg of that game and it was brilliant, like german said, this tournament is wide open now.

I wish he wanted to stay at Man U... he will be a HUGE loss for us. He is indeed a world class player.

Silver lining though...Ronaldo has began talks on a new contract

The draw has come out for the quarter-finals, interesting is a word that comes to mind but they will be some excellent matches thats for sure.

Bayern v Milan - I like Bayerns chances against Milan - with two solid performances against Real and they are now responding to Hitzfeld coaching (he has been back for a little over a month) they will only improve, where as Milan was lucky against Celtic. I can see this fixture going down to the last minute of the second leg. No call yet...

Liverpool v PSV - 'pool should be favourites and rightfully so but PSV I think can push them. Liverpool to advance...

Roma v Man Utd - arguably two of the best remaining...Roma play beautiful structured football but Man Utd have some world class in their line up. No call yet...

Chelsea v Valencia - I see Chelsea going through without to much hassle but Valencia at home will be a hard task to crack. Chelsea to advance...

The first legs are played on 3rd and 4th next month.
