hey everyone. I'm rather fond of The Sopranos on HBO, and I've been able to keep things pretty straight so far, but something occurred on this week's episode that confused me. Does anyone have any insight they can share?

I'm talking about the "no-show"/fiberoptics/tile scams that Tony's construction crew is running. I don't really get what they're doing and why it's profitable, as it's never more than alluded to... but apparently it involves sitting around all day and then stealing stuff off the construction site. I think.

Someone want to explain what's going on with this one?

thanks,
Phin

the whole "no show" scam involves, I believe, the contract for the building work. the stealing of the fiber optics and tile is just a bonus for the guys!

No-shows are jobs where someone gets a paycheck but never even has to show up on the site: their name goes on the payroll and they get paid every week for doing nothing. It's a way of rewarding employees, which is why Christopher got one. No-works are the ones where the guys were all sitting around: they have to be on the site in case someone shows up checking up on things, but they aren't expected to actually do any work.

Seperate from those was the stealing that went on: the fiber optic cable is extremely valuable, and apparently so was the tile, so they stole it to sell it illegally. Tony was pissed because his big payoff will come when the job is done, and having expensive stuff stolen delays that and causes other problems (like the police asking questions and sniffing around the site.)

FYI

It also jeopardizes future contract jobs, since the whole objective of involving the mob is to prevent labor delays and all kinds of stuff growing legs and walking off the job....better question is what's up with Silvio...very uncharacteristic behavior this week.

thanks gents, that clears it up immensely.

yep I'm rather concerned with Silvio myself, but my bigger interest is in the newfound relationship between Ralph and Tony's sister. Let's not forget Ralph beat that hooker to death a season or two back. Bad news all around...

I think Silvio is upset he passed over for Christopher...since he doesn't know Tony's reasoning that he can trust family. Of course if he knew about Christopher's drugs I'm sure he'd think twice (right after he finished pounding him!) LOL

Still though the coolest scene was Adriana puking all over the FBI desk! LOL! Can't wait to see how that all plays out!

Damn. I'm behind in my Sopranos viewings. Must catch up...

That SHOULD have been my favorite part-but when Tony looks at Silvio and asks quietly "...did you deliberately disobey me...?" every remotely submissive chick I know had a dozen tiny heart attacks, we're pathetic :whip: 🙄
