I know those of us along the east coast have been watching and waiting to see just where this storm is going to land so I wanted to reach out to everyone and say that I hope everyone stays safe throughout.

in the Southern End of CT on the LI Island sound, schools already closed. City has declared a State of Emergency as well as the State of CT itself. It is supposed to get very nasty here and I live in a historic tree lined area. I turned off the news for new because they say to prepare for the worst

Take care my friends! Don't do something stupid! 🙂 Be safe!

I think we should all do The Lurch instead.......in honor of Halloween:

Best idea I've heard so far! 🙂

Seriously, keep an ear on the news (public radio stations are probably best since commercial radio stations tend to be automated), keep your NOAA weather radio handy and have a bug-out kit at hand if it turns out you need to evacuate.

Kered - I'd vote for 'im! 🙂

The wind is starting to pick up speed here in Central Pennsylvania. Traveling the turnpike east the speed limit has been reduced to 45 MPH. Some small power outages so far.

I've been on this planet for awhile and have NEVER seen anything like this! Who the hell thinks about hurricanes in NY and NJ? Never......never!

It's been crazy over here in my neck of the woods; I have the lake about 2 miles east and west of me and it's been plain crazy. Power was out all night and am lucky to have the chance to post this message. Don't know what it's going to look like today, but my thoughts and prayers go out to you guys closer east because the s*its crazy over here in Ohio!

I never thought I'd see the day when the weather can shut down NY subway and train stations and turn Washington DC into a ghost town. Please be careful and safe; if you don't have to be out there, please stay home and be grateful to make it through this storm.

Gusts of over 90mph were reported in midtown Manhattan, specifically at 57th Street where a construction crane was blown off a roof.

Flooding is massive in lower Manhattan, where the Brooklyn/Battery tunnel is flooded. It may take several days to get the water out of several subway tunnels under the East River.

A fire raged out of control in the Breezy Point section of Queens, burning 50 houses to the ground. Flooding hampered firefighters from getting to the blaze.

But I am fine. On Sunday evening I went to the supermarket and bought enough food for several days. I still have electric power and I haven't gone outside since. 😀

We now have to contend with small stream flooding. I notice that West Virginia is digging out of a record snowfall, and I saw pictures of cars buried in sand in New Jersey.

Things have been rough where I'm located, which was one of the hardest areas hit. To add insult to injury a northeaster may be approaching in the middle of next week. Ugh.

All the hurricane did here in my neck of the southern tier of New York was make it greyer and rainier than it usually is around here in November. One day I'm bracing for the worst as a state of emergency is declared. I hear the winds pick up, but never to the sustained 40 MPH predicted (though gusts that fast were recorded). The state of emergency was lifted the following morning. No damage to speak of, no power outages as far as I know, everything back to normal.

We were insanely lucky I guess. I'm having a touch of survivor's guilt. My heart goes out to those who got it on the chin from this freak storm.
