Hey 🙂 I'm planning a vacation with my family to Ft. Lauderdale this summer (June/July??) I was wondering if anybody is from or has been there to let me know what there is to do there for people from age 1 to 50 LOL (big family LOL) Any input is appreciated! 🙂 Thanks so much!!

Hi Skip. I used to go to Fort Lauderdale 3-4 times a year from 1978 to 1987 to visit my grandparents. I know it's been 18 years since I've last been there, so things have probably changed some, but this is what I found.
Lauderdale is a major metropolitan area with many things to do. Your usual activities of many movies, malls, resturants, as well as some amusement parks are there. There is also Golf, Tennis, lots of pools, and such.
One thing that should be taken into account in Lauderdale in the summer is the weather. It is usually unbearably hot and humid and very rainy, with temps between 85 and 90, and very high humidity every day. Additionally, if you are planning any outdoor activities, keep an eye to the sky, because seemingly every afternoon between around 3 and 6pm, there are showers and thunderstorms with heavy rain, lightning, and some hail. Any outdoor activities in the summer would best be planned before noon as that is the part of the day that is less hot, and less likely for rain.
Have a good trip. As I said, it's been a while, so you probably need to talk to someone who has been there more recently than me to get specific activities which are there now. I just wanted to give you a brief overview of how it generally was when I was there.

I'm with Mitch~a hundred years ago when I was in college, living in Boston, we spent every spring break in Lauderdale but I think it's changed a lot since then, gotten more touristy. You might write to the city, I'm sure they have a guide they put out for visitors. I remember Florida summers being a nightmare though~they've these HUGE mosquitoes and it's humid as anything. We found relief at the beach but the waves are no Coral Reef if you surf like me. Still, they'll be fun waves for beginners.
XOXO

You surf, too, Steph!?!

Is there no end to your Goddess-like stature?

GO! You crazy Cali-grrl, GO!

😎

Yep Doc!

I was born and raised in Southern Cal until my mid-teens, where I mostly surfed Seals and the Rincon, but I actually learned visiting my cousins who live in Hawaii~on the infamous Banzai Pipeline is actually where I cut my longboard chops!

LOL~You're sweet! No Goddess tho, I'm afraid, just the girl next door...:justlips:

Now, help the young man out, will ya honey? :whip:😛
XOXO

Gah! You surfed Pipeline? Wowsers! :wow:

Actually, I think Skipadeedoodah is a young lady, Steph(?). Alas, I've never been down that far into South Florida, but you and Mitchell brought up some good points to follow about being anywhere in Florida in the Summertime. If next year is anything like this last Summer, she may have more surf than she ever bargained for via the hurricanes that seemed to rip through on a weekly basis. 🙁
Seriously, though. It's a huge metropolitan area down thataway. Should be plenty of trouble to get into. I "think" Silvercherry is located down there somewhere. Maybe Skipadeedoodah can stop in for some fun on the massage-table!

(DOH!)

Omigosh, how embarassing~I'm soo sorry Skip~I hope you can forgive me for being such a doof.
Thanks for straightening me out Doc Bill. :Kiss1:

And you do know your waves~now I'M the one impressed!
Well, I'd been boogieing and short boarding it for years so I wasn't a beginner by any stretch by the time I got there. My adorable cousin Kevin (now a sargeant on the Pearl CityPD) told me, "Well, if you don't master it here, you'll die trying~might as well go out doing something ya love right?"😀 Somehow I pulled it off~ya never forget your first green room, know what I mean? 😛

Now back to topic, you might be right about the waves~the hurricanes do have an effect I'm sure. I know it was super touristy back when I was there, I bet there's plenty of fun still there!

Oh, LOL~And I'm not so sure shooting a fetish video while you're down in florida for your family reunion is such a great way to keep family harmony, BTW~YOU are wicked! 😛

XOXO

Well, maybe she could slip off for a spell while everyone's at the gator-farm? 😉

Oh, I'm total longboard action, here. Stand-up for a minute, then fall-down, go boom. 😱

Yeah, we need a hurricane to get waves like this lovely green room scene!

Oh THAT is fantastic! Such memories! Thanks for sharing!

And maybe she could... 😛

Thanks everyone for your replies 🙂 Dr. Bill, I'm with Steph on this one LOL my family tends to keep pretty short leashes on eachother when we're on vacation...there's so many of us we have to! lol Steph, as far as the gender confusion..don't sweat it 🙂 Happens all the time! I guess I should have chosen a more feminine name 🙂 Anyhow, thanks again for your help guys 🙂 Take care!

LOL~you're cute Skippy! Thanks for not making me feel like a space cadette! 🙂

You're smart I think, BTW, it is better safe than sorry, esp in an unfamiliar spot on vacation~local criminals can always smell tourists. I don't know what it's like now but when I visited on a regular basis (back in college) a city like Miami had the most heinous crime rate.

Have a great time, I know I loved Lauderdale~I hope you will too!
XOXO

Thanks so much! We're trying to figure out exactly what to do and when and where...it's crazy! Thanks everyone for your input though 🙂
xoxo take care all 🙂

p.s. anybody PM me anytime 🙂

Hey there Skippy

Just seeing your post for the 1st time this morning so you're probably already getting a good idea about what to do. I love southeast Florida year round. I live in Tampa but go there at least half a dozen times a year (in fact I'm going next weekend). Yes, it'll be hot in the summer. But the beaches are great and a family vacation by the pool sipping little drinks with umbrellas on them seems to make it more bearable. I often make no plans and just hang out. South Beach, about 20 minutes south, is the place to go day or night depending on the crowd your looking for. Lots of celebs walking around, I;ve seen Pam Anderson and met Tommy Davidson down there. Orlando is about 3 hrs away and a trip to Florida wouldn't be complete with some theme park visit. Disney is the classic but there are others and I like Islands of Adventure at Universal Studios the best. There is a reason that Florida is the #1 tourist destination in the world and no other city gets more tourists than Orlando.

I hope you have a great trip. Hit me up with any specific questions if you like.

Louis

Thanks Louis, I was joking about the staying home part, but I'm not used to heat🙂 I'm from northern Maine and the heat in PA almost killed me my first year here 🙂

Thanks for the help 🙂
