Wal-Mart? Booo :sowrong:

If it weren't for their consistently low prices I'd boycott. :laughhard:

She should have been commended for saving the dog from death by heat exhaustion. Sigh.

She should have informed the manager and let him make the decision.

She took the brave route by confronting the customer. How unfortunate... of course, there is always two sides to a story.

Guys, don't blindly follow this short article and feel bad for the woman. We don't know enough details about this situation. The windows could have been down moreso than was written, as "about an inch" is very vague, and obviously heresay -- just as vague as "hot day" even, and apparently from what we know, she waited 10 minutes, and was confronted by the customer at some unknown point after that. He could have been in there no longer than 10-15 minutes, and the dog isn't gonna die from that.

Saying she "saved the dog" is not something we can tell at this point, and vice versa. She could have truly just been bothering this person over something trivial.

Argumentum ad passiones... I like Speedbump's skepticism and further analysis of the story.

What was the guy shopping for at WalMart? Was it a prolong or a quick shopping experience? How often did the woman look at her wristwatch or the time on her cellphone(keeping track of time) before calling the police? There are probably many more questions that need to be asked...

The article offers way too much emotion, and not enough evidence to actually analyze.

You might have something there, especially about the "hot day". Coming from an area where temperatures regularly reach triple digits, I found myself wondering whether it really gets hot enough in Canada to pose a threat to a dog's life. I also wonder what the guy was supposed to do - leave his windows down so the dog could keep jumping out?

Still, even if all you say is true, it doesn't amount to a firing offense; some sort of warning, possibly accompanied by added training, would have been a more reasonable course. IMO, Wal-Mart went too far by sacking her.

Yeah man. I will agree that it wasn't worth firing her over, unless of course she acted in a much different manner than is reported. Or, of course, she could have been just a terrible employee with a history of issues that we know nothing about, and she's using this one case as the excuse for her firing to make Wal-Mart look bad. Somehow I doubt she was fired entirely over this one isolated incident.

But who knows? Nothing but speculation both in and out of this article.

She was probably fired for previous insubordination. Was she arriving to work early or late, for example? How many consumers go to WalMart(and, this one incident(as a producer/employee), caused her to lose her job)? Is the loss of one consumer(plus, "seven to nine"('statistics')), worth firing the employee? They are a giant retail corporation!

She was putting her nose that violates the non-aggression principle!

Yeah. I worked at Wal-Mart briefly when I was younger, and I got away with quite a bit. Pushing carts around, I scratched up like three peoples cars and didn't say shit, and they kept bringing me into the office every time saying "this has got to stop, we're sending a letter about this to head office." Then nothing. I also told off a manager, was slow as shit (being called into the office once for them to tell me I lack a "sense of urgency"), was late constantly, and on Christmas Eve, they told all staff they couldn't leave until everything they needed was done, and there was a ton left to do, so I just waited for the person at the door to turn and ran out and around the corner and went home. This was all during a three month period, and I ended up quitting instead of getting fired. Haha

There's no way she was fired over this one incident. She's just bitter.

The whole report is vague, I agree. But, just so you know, 80 degrees outside, even with windows down, is too much for average dogs - even for a mere "10-15 minutes." They can't sweat to cool their bodies like a human (only pant), so heat exhaustion and other very bad things happen quickly. I'm not condoning what Wal-mart allegedly did, but as a public service announcement this time of year, it never hurts to remind people not to leave animals or babies unattended. And yeah, I've seen death of the pet result from such "short" shopping trips.

Not to mention, NO shopping trip to Walmart is EVER quick. The thirty-plus registers will have two cashiers on hand, resulting in that quick purchase of bread, milk, and a pack of gum turns into a thirty-minute minimum trip. Don't leave pets and kids unattended in cars on a hot day.

I can understand babies, but animals? Really? Egalitarianism, is destroying everything! You can abuse an animal, but was this the case? What if the guy let the dog go, would that dog bite or attack another human?

The tag is on the dog, if the dog attacked somebody - who is responsible for the damage?

WHO IS GOING TO BE SUED?

WalMart or the dog-owner?

How do you know the dog owner was or was not buying dog-food for the dog?

This short story is bullshit!

No pets are not the same as children but require special levels of responsibility from the owner. If you own a dog, you might as well have a child that you don't have to clothe. You're still responsible for training, health and maintenance, and travel issues.

I wasn't there nor do I know the details of what happened, but I do know one thing; WalMart is a shithole!! If my finances were in better shape I'd NEVER have anything to do with them! Since Sam died, the company's gone to hell, and it wasn't that great when he was there either since there have always been issues with women and people of color not having positions in upper management. Now, they just use the migrant workers and put them through horrible conditions, and they don't treat their employees much better. It's a huge insatiable greedy beast that eats away business with every store they dump into a community....nothing positive about this company at all to me except cheap prices and Chinese junk being peddled.

If the woman in question has a case, let the legal system sort it out. If not, dust yourself off and get those resumes moving. Good luck to her in her endeavors and a puppy gets to live another day from her efforts.

Amen.
