Way to go there, Wal-Mart.

Guys, don't blindly follow this short article and feel bad for the woman. We don't know enough details about this situation. The windows could have been down moreso than was written, as "about an inch" is very vague, and obviously heresay -- just as vague as "hot day" even, and apparently from what we know, she waited 10 minutes, and was confronted by the customer at some unknown point after that. He could have been in there no longer than 10-15 minutes, and the dog isn't gonna die from that.
Saying she "saved the dog" is not something we can tell at this point, and vice versa. She could have truly just been bothering this person over something trivial.
You might have something there, especially about the "hot day". Coming from an area where temperatures regularly reach triple digits, I found myself wondering whether it really gets hot enough in Canada to pose a threat to a dog's life. I also wonder what the guy was supposed to do - leave his windows down so the dog could keep jumping out?
Still, even if all you say is true, it doesn't amount to a firing offense; some sort of warning, possibly accompanied by added training, would have been a more reasonable course. IMO, Wal-Mart went too far by sacking her.
She was probably fired for previous insubordination. Was she arriving to work early or late, for example? How many consumers go to WalMart(and, this one incident(as a producer/employee), caused her to lose her job)? Is the loss of one consumer(plus, "seven to nine"('statistics')), worth firing the employee? They are a giant retail corporation!
She was putting her nose that violates the non-aggression principle!
The whole report is vague, I agree. But, just so you know, 80 degrees outside, even with windows down, is too much for average dogs - even for a mere "10-15 minutes." They can't sweat to cool their bodies like a human (only pant), so heat exhaustion and other very bad things happen quickly. I'm not condoning what Wal-mart allegedly did, but as a public service announcement this time of year, it never hurts to remind people not to leave animals or babies unattended. And yeah, I've seen death of the pet result from such "short" shopping trips.
