Since there was no illegal activity, there was no support of an illegal activity. Since there was no support of an illegal activity, your question about who gets to decide which illegal activity is okay to support, is MOOT!

THAT is the answer to your question. If you want a better one, then I suggest you invent a machine that allows you to travel back in time, change the events from what they WERE to what YOU want them to be, and then see what we all do. No big long goodbye post from me (because from what I've seen here, you'll all be celebrating), just going to say that this thread has been pretty telling about just the sort of people who congregate here. I've been threatened with violence, insulted, and told I should be banned, just because I tried to research a sensitive and potentially troublesome topic out of concern... wait for it... FOR THE COMMUNITY.

There's always been some really odd shit on these boards from people who just don't play well with others, but I've always looked the other way and shook my head. But to be called holier than thou just because I want to make sure nobody's breaking the law? That just blows my mind.

In Phineas' defense, he did nothing wrong here folks. He reported NOTHING, he merely asked a question from theproper source to find out information that should be known. Was something that was done and condoned legal or not.

The answer to this question is an important one. Phineas was doing what he thought was right for the community at large and I commend him for the way in which he went about it as opposed to the real "holier than though" actions taken by others if indeed those actions were even taken, which is highly doubtful.

I for one do not wish a good contributing member to leave over a
misunderstanding and miscommunication in one thread of the forum.

So, I ask you to reconsider leaving Phin, and I ask everyone else to look at what we are about to post before we hit submit. If it is a valid point that adds to the discussion of the subject at hand, push the button. If it is hurtful and spiteful and just a comment that will stir up trouble, delete it and walk away.

Heated debates are popular here and without the benefit of squaring off face-to-face (my personal preference), true feelings take a lot longer to convey. Its usually a struggle to be understood as you intended.

You may have meant well with your inquiry, but it came at a time that Neutron was claiming that he forwarded Prime's letter to the authorities. So, you kind of went swimming innocently in a raging whirlpool.

To your credit, you did stay faithful to your point of view, and tried to make your case. I'm sure it wasn't easy.

Anyway, I apologize if I attacked you personally for something you didn't do, and I sincerely hope you'll reconsider leaving and not let the heat of this thread burn you out.

On the legality question...

From my knowledge of this part of law, this would have been technically illegal in Britain, but it's highly unlikely anyone would bother with charging anyone over it. "Technically" illegal, as in it's technically illegal to pick your nose on Good Friday whilst walking backwards down a highstreet. (You'se is Americans, you have plenty of laws like this.😀)

It's categorised under deception as far as I'm aware. Would have a lot more foundation in law if money had been involved, but of course it wasn't.

All in all, a chance in a thousand that anything would come of it. If that.

i was the first to call for phineass and tron to be banned from the tmf. it was wishfull thinking i guess, but i ment it. venray, you are "one of the good people", and i respect you highly, but go back and read phineass's post, he stated that he called the authorities and reported the incidend, and was awaiting a call back from a "detective". he was being all "holier than thou", and he was out of line.

This was a brutal thread and I know you just inquired about what they would do (campus police). For someone to state you be banned, was wrong and said without thinking.

You've been a great member of this community for a long time. I would ask too, that you not leave. Though I felt the thread stayed longer than it should have, you were left to the onslaught as Tron took to the lurking side. That wasn't cool and I feel bad you got hit with the brunt of it.

I apologize to you, if I had stated my words harshly, though I stick to my thoughts that this survey was harmless.

Tron "reacted" as he did because he felt that someone was doing something illegal.* Should we, as a community, be expected to allow admissions of illegal deeds to be posted here without consequences? What if it's only "slightly" illegal? How illegal does it have to be before it's considered serious enough to take action over? Frankly, I'm more disturbed by the reactions of everyone else to Tron's comments than I am to prime's original post.

the above is a post from phineas. i think he himself feels he is no longer fitting in.
as for his reaction, and wondering how serious does a crime have to be before something is done; in illinois the only crime that he (primetime) could have been charged with is trespassing. as he wasn't a student. when taking a poll, it is exceptable practice to alter the true point of the poll, to get a certain reaction, outcome, etc..

and venray i still stand by my post, i'm glad he's gone! i can't believe you edited out my "don't let the door hit you on the way out"
