Gas is very close to $4 a gallon here in Austin now,and i know its already hit that mark some places.Other then getting to work and other things we must all do,are you cutting back on driving yet?

Travis County reported record crowds at local parks over the Memorial Day weekend,and in some cases turned people away due to overcrowding.Are you staying closer to home this summer instead of driving to see uncle Joe and aunt Jane?Or are you cutting back in other ways to compensate for the high gas prices?

I had a problem with my A/C that took me a couple of months before I got around to getting repaired.

I’m pretty anal about monitoring gas mileage anyway, but was surprised that the mileage went up almost 5mpg consistently during that time.

In any case, where I wouldn’t normally give it a second thought, I now only turn on the A/C when absolutely necessary.

It really doesn’t amount to that much out of my wallet, but just the thought that I’m giving a little less to the OPECers, makes me feel better.

My father and I co-own an old '94 (so technically '93) Pontiac Grand Am that I'm seriously considering selling to him completely.

Even though I've kicked my old habit of joy-riding, sometimes to other cities in other states completely, you get more exercise from biking, a more relaxing experience through walking, and you get to meet ... interesting people via mass transit.

i bought a very small very fuel economic car but it still kills me to keep gas in it. Every weekend i make a drive that is 120 miles round trip ... this is outside of the commute to and from work. I don't really go much elsewhere but i have a feeling very little of it is because of gas prices. But yes, this gas is killin' me. Like i don't have enough financial catching up to do already!

Hehe The majority of the time I ride the bus or rely on friends for transportation. The bus gets me from home to school and home to work and my friends (or my boyfriend) get me everywhere else!

It's well over $4/gal here in CT. One nearby station is up to $4.31. There's only so much we can do to save. Drew is back and forth a lot with work. So, that's not an option for cutting back. Instead, we try to do a better job planning trips to the store, grabbing things on the way home rather than making an extra trip out. We also aren't as quick to do those road trips we never thought twice about before. Trips up to my dad's or to visit friends are more likely to be every 6-7 weeks rather than once a month. Thank God for the phone and internet to keep in touch with people!

I'm fed up of filling up my car and putting more and more in each time I do and it costing a small fortune, its ridiculous.

Just out of curiosity - what are gas prices in the UK like right now?

Over here I can only envy those who complain about prices of USD 4 a gallon.
We pay EUR 1,3 a litre right now, which would be EUR 4,9 a gallon.
With 1 EUR = 1,55 USD, thats USD 7,6 a gallon

I'm still not changing to public transport though and never will.

Really? I'm very glad I'm not hiring a car when I'm in Germany in December, at those prices it will use up all my beer money, can't be having that lol

Ah, but there is a difference between the American gallon, and the rest of the world. That may affect the conversions a little.

Or something like that.

In England, it's £1.16 per litre.

Diesel is much higher then gasoline here also,about a dollar a gallon more last time i checked.

A bike? Yes I ride mountain bikes and even did a charity ride once we did 80 miles in one day. I'm quite partial to a long ride but I'd have to get up even earlier in the mornings to haul my arse on the saddle to ride in to work, it would take too long, unfortunately. Nearly every weekend I'd be out on my bike for about 2-3 hours. Thanks for the suggestion though 😛

I don't drive, but with gas as expensive as 4.40 a gallon here, it effects the price of everything else like food, and especially public transportation.

I live in the 3rd largest city in the US, but we can't seem to to make our public transportation system work. 100s of CTA workers laid off, fare increases, and some routes canceled altogether.

Luckily, it's summer, and I can combat this issue by riding my bike everywhere. It'll suck come winter, though, if nothing changes.
