My computer crashed rather badly a few days ago and it seems my jave was a bit corrupted when it did. I could get into chat but certain things did not work right including some java apps that I need to use my websites. I went to the java site to verify my nstallation and it did not find any java or could not verify the installation. So i downloaded JRE version 5 patch 12 and instaled it. Restarted the computer and a few problems were corrected. However the web site problem is still there and when I try to verify the installation it tells me I have version 1.50_12. At this point I at my wits end. Any advice. Thanks for your time.

Also please I checked Add/Remove programs and only version 5 patch 12 is listed in that part of the control panel.

I assume you have "Show Updates" checked in Add/Remove Programs, yes? If not, check that and see if other Java things show up (It's at the top of the A/R Ps window). One thing to try is completely removing Java via A/R Ps. If you uninstall it from there and then reinstall it it might actually take. If you've already done this then I am unsure. 🙁

Thanks for the reply HDS. Yes the only thing that shows in add/remove programs is Java 5.0. It shows as 120Mb program though which is a bit big. LOL

HDS just tried removing all traces of Java via A/R Programs and then reinstalling Runtime 5, Update 11. Perhaps update 11 rather than 12 will work. I know the latest version, Runtime 6, Update 2, doesn't work with many things. I have a link to the installer for Runtime 5, Update 11 that I uploaded to my server to help another TMFer a bit back. Try removing Java and installing that, eh?

Thanks for your time HDS. 😀 Actually the installation did work I think. I downloaded Version 5 patch 12 which saved as a file jre-1_5_0_12. exe. I installed this file and when verified by Java I see I have version 1.5.0-12 I think that the numbers match is not a coincindence. Why Java puts the one there I am not sure. Anyway the few minor things that were acting funny seem to work now. However the web maintenance thing still gives me errors. At this point I think the error is on the web hosting service end. Now all I have to do is convnce them of that LOL. 😀
