If my computer being eradicated by the Win 7 Security virus, twice, this winter was the damn thing being possessed by a demon from the darkest pits of Hades, then my computer has just finished being possessed by a virtuous faerie of equal nobility and good.

I have finally been able to install, run and activate Adobe's complete CS5 Master Collection. This means I'm back to being able to do finished, polished pieces of artwork which have been sorely missed from my repertoire since February. :woot:

The issue I have now is that I have no idea what three-quarters of this shit does or what its intended purpose is for.

Photoshop = Photo editing
Illustrator = Vector-based graphic design
Flash Pro = Animation and programmable animation
Bridge =
Contribute =
Dreamweaver =
Device Central =
Encore =
ExtendScript =
Fireworks =
Flash Builder =
InDesign =
Media Encoder =
On Location =
Premiere =
Pixel Bender =
Soundbooth =

Anyone else here fill in the blanks for me? Little help?

Thanks in advance.

I know a few of them. 😀 Adobe is renowned for creating a gazillion applications that could really be done by two or three programs. 😀

DreamWeaver is for web site design

Fireworks is a application especially for web Graphics. (why you need another program for this beats me :shrug: )

Soundbooth is Adobe's version of an Audio Workstation. Like Sony's SoundForge or maybe more like Sony's Acid Pro. The former is mainly for processing sounds the later is more for composing tunes.

I've only ever seen InDesign used for laying out printed material. My school used it for newspaper and yearbook. When I took my technology class, we used it for brochures, vacation schedules, movie posters, etc... It's a pretty good program.

Wow, the same thing happened to me, Snail, from the virus to CS5 😉

Soundbooth (Audition in my CS5) is an audio editing program
Premiere is video editing program (requires 64 bit O/s)
Indesign is indeed for printed materials, posters, brochures, flyers, etc
Dreamweaver makes building webpages easy

I don't use the rest of them.

Very cool. I will have to experiment in the coming days (months).

Bridge = Something that spans across a divide, or body of water for traffic to get through.
Contribute = What anyone does here when they post. Loosely speaking.
Dreamweaver = A terrible, terrible song from the 70's.
Device Central = What my desk looks like at work.
Encore = Excuse singers use to stay on the stage.
ExtendScript = What Lucas did to Star Wars 3, and Jackson did to Return of the King.
Fireworks = Useful for making explody noises.
Flash Builder = Um.. whatever gave Flash his powers? Nuclear lightning or something?
On Location = Where Ron Burgundy, Anchorman reports from.
Pixel Bender = Try not to bend the pixel. Instead, realize there is no pixel.
Soundbooth = What? Speak up?

Glad I could help.

This is incorrect. The lightning merely activated the chemicals which built Flash. Fool.

Soundbooth (Audition in my CS5) is an audio editing program

Audition's a great sound processor. Been using it for a long time!

If you can afford it, I'd recommend reserving one machine strictly for art/sound/photos/etc., which is rarely if ever online, and another machine (a "beater") for web communications. That way if some script kiddie decides it'd be a real neat idea to write a new virus, you'll be a lot more likely not to lose work.

Dreamweaver = A terrible, terrible song from the 70's.

You got that one right!

I confess to not being up to date on the latest comic book geekery.

:sigh: The Flash is originally Wally West, a forensic investigator who was caught in a lab explosion when a shelf full of forensic chemicals was struck by lightning. The result, along with his meta-human genetics, created The Flash.

A forensic investigator? Ok, now I totally want to see David Caruso as The Flash.

Others have said some of these, but I'll throw them together in one.

Photoshop = Photo editing
Illustrator = Vector-based graphic design
Flash Pro = Animation and programmable animation
Bridge = Photo and document management
Contribute = Operates like Microsoft's Sharepoint, with a client (Contribute) and a server; for simple design of web pages with central management of the server and other tasks
Dreamweaver = Web design and HTML Editor
Device Central = Helps manage your design for various mobile devices, including managing testing
Encore = DVD authoring
ExtendScript = Scripting for the Creative Suite; lets you automate ("script") tasks in different programs
Fireworks = Bitmap and vector graphics editor. In other words, image editor, particularly for web/mobile graphics (GIF, PNG, etc)
Flash Builder = A very light version of Flash; lets you create Flash video and other content in a more programming-oriented fashion
InDesign = Document design and layout. Useful for things like designing a magazine or poster
Media Encoder = Change media (audio, video) between different formats
On Location = Works with Premier for management of encoded video; somewhat nebulous purpose
Premiere = Video editing
Pixel Bender = Image processing programming language environment
Soundbooth = Sound editing
