hi everyone. i just got the program poser 4. so now i can make those pictures with it like so many others do. but the thing is im not really sure how to use it. the most i can do is just like twist and turn the defeault character and change his colors. i cant do anything else. i dont know how to add props, facial expression(laughing), or multiple characters. could any one explain to me how to do suchs things? any help would be aprreciated.

thanx

Well Dave2112 and Khali probably know a heck of a lot more than me as they are the real experts but let me give it a shot as I am a newbie as well. I do have Poser 5 so that things might be a bit different.

On the right hand side is a bar like thing, click it, and you get a bunch of folders for things like figures, props, expressions and the like.

To add a prop open up the prop folder and click on a prop and then click on the check mark below to add it.

To add a figure repeat the above only open the figure folder then pick a figure and click the check mark to add it. If you have a figure and wish to add another then click the double check mark.

To change expression click on the figures head open the expression folder and then pick a expression and click the check mark. The face should change expression.

To get a pose click the figure, open the pose folder, pick a pose, and click the check mark.

Another couple of tips: there's a .pdf User Guide in the Poser 4 folder on your computer. There's a lot of good tips in there.

Also, some stuff I've figured out: 1) It's a LOT easier to get the changes you want if you use the dials on the right hand side. clicking directly on the body parts is kind of difficult.

2) If you can't make the right side navbar appear, try going to the Windows menu and clicking on "Libraries"

3) The various pose presets in the libraries have some good stuff, but you can get some really nice, subtle effects with small, individual dial changes.

4) Considering the complexity of the Light setup, I find it very surprising that not a single one of the Light Library presets is worth ANYTHING. They *all* suck. Play with the lighting until you find settings you like.

Beyond that, I recommend just playing with the program for awhile. There's all sort of little hidden quirks to it. 🙂 Good luck, and if you have any other questions, please ask!

Cheers,

Wow its great to see there are more poser users in the tickling community then I thought. 🙂

Poser resources

I have found that DAZ (Arcana part of the site) has some good tutorials. Studying the manual will be your biggest help. Poser 4's default models have some limitations however you can be very creative with them. Also, you may try looking for some charater textures at:

they are very nice. Mostly, be patient and have fun. It is a great progam.

Pretty much all of the essentials have been covered by my colleagues, and I'd also strongly suggest reading the .pdf files for tips. Take your time and experiment with things you don't want to save.

Start with putting the figures in various poses. As mentioned, it's a lot easier to do with the dials than the cursors.

Play with all of the controls on the panel to see what they do. When I got Poser, I had no idea what I was doing, and learned it all by trial and error. And a lot of reading. Be patient. You're not going to churn out illustrated novels in a week, trust me. It's like taking up a musical instrument. There's a lot involved. However, it's pretty easy to learn once you get the basics down.

Important tip I learned from very early experience: When you render a picture (the Render options on the top toolbar...this basically "creates" the textures and such for a final picture)...remember to click the "anit-alias" function. It gets rid of the choppy lines around things. My first pictures were horrible from not knowing this.

Hope some of this has been helpful. I'm sure with all of us around, you'll have folks to turn to. Good luck! 😎

Guys--

I just joined the Poser gang myself... and am looking forward to having lots and lots of fun with it!

Dave, would it be possible to create a seperate Poser sub-area within the Media area of the forum? With so many people getting into the program, it just seemed like an idea to suggest.

I'm hoping to post my first Poser pic soon... please let me know what you think when I do.

Hahathna 😀

I doubt you'll see another sub-forum for Poser art. There's really no need for one, as it all falls under Art. Having Poser and CGI work in here with drawn art actually helps to legitimaize CGI as a true art form, in my opinion anyway.

It is nice to see so many others getting into it these days. 😎

Maybe we could just have a Poser thread with poser tips and stuff.

Hey, as long as this is the Poser thread, I've got a question:

I'm on the DAZ3d mailing list, and I know "where" the tutorials are (arcanum). Trouble is, we have either 1) a slow modem connection, and/or 2) and old version of Flash.

I've convinced the site to show me the Tutorial topics menu, but I can't get the silly thing to actually show me the Tutorials themselves!

I've gotten one or two of the good ones from the original authors, but there's some basic Poser-to-Photoshop stuff that I'm not 100% happy with my output on, and want to work on. Can anyone give me a non-Flash way in? I can't even get to a section of site support that will help--all I can see are the main page, the Digital Zone main page, and the free gallery.

Any ideas appreciated.

Cheers,
Gold
