...It was reported Saturday night that Hercules Hernandez passed away. This was announced at the Pro Wresting Hall of fame Dinner held outside of Buffalo, New York. At the start of the evening they had a ten-bell salute for wrestlers who have passed in the last year including Hercules, which shocked the crowd, as none of us knew.

Hercules Hernandez (real name Raymond Fernandez)passed away from what is believed to have been a heart attack in his Tampa, Florida home. Fernandez would have turned 46 on 5/7.

Fernandez was best known as "The Mighty" Hercules Hernandez in the World Wrestling Federation in the 1980s as a member of Bobby Heenan's stable. His major singles feud was with Billy Jack Haynes in 1987 over who had the better full nelson. The feud featured his career highlight, a double countout against Haynes at Wrestlemania III.

Fernandez was turned babyface in a feud against Ted DiBiase after an angle where he rejected being sold to DiBiase as "his slave." He later teamed with Paul Roma as the Power and Glory tag team.

After leaving the WWF in the early 1990s, he had a run in New Japan Pro Wrestling as Hercules Hernandez teaming with Scott Norton as the Jurassic Powers. He also worked briefly in WCW as the masked Super Invader managed by Harley Race during 1992's Bill Watts regime.

A sad way to begin Monday morning....another pro wrestler not much older than me gone far too soon 🙁

Hey Wil...I know what you mean about insensitive and assinine comments. I was shocked last year when a classless jerk mocked the untimely passing of Miss Elizabeth (I'd posted a memorial to her on a weather off-topic forum). Whether you are a wrestling fan or not, at least have the decency to allow us who are fans to pay our respects in peace.

Thanks for the information Wil...have a wonderful day 🙂

I heard about this...

...on Live Audio Wrestling sunday night (www.liveaudiowrestling.com). The guys rimed off a grand number of "lesser titles" that Herc held when he was in the NWA, and talked about his fueds in the WWF.I remeber whan Power & Glory were first put together, I thought it was realy cool. Then vince sacroficed them to the LOD at a WrestleMania. I also remeber that Herc almost beat Ricky Steamboat right after he won the IC strap from Randy Savage.

The introduction of "Power & Glory" was when I thought these two very fine wrestlers were finally going to get their dues. They had the capacity to be the Hart Foundation of the '90's, except with a little more charisma. I just watched a match saturday from their inception days, and still wondered why they were suddenly cast out, when they seemed to have everything it would take to reach the top, and stay at the top for a good long while. A couple of weeks ago I watched an old interview with Hercules; the reporter said he was in character for the interview, but when the camera was turned off he told her about his children.

Another very sad day for wrestling fans everywhere, and another wake-up call for wrestlers.

Power and Glory were that rare case when taking two 'b-listers' actually paid off in a great tag team. They had good heat with the crowd, and worked well as a tag team. Too bad Vince didn't catch on.

Hercules is gone? R.I.P. Hercules Hernandez. he was an interesting character. i remember when he had that rivalry with Billy Jack Haynes and how later he wanted to destroy Bobby Heenan. i also remember the Power & Glory tag team combo as they made a good team. but Demolition was running the show, so they never got their opportunity. by the way, how come it seems like no one remembers Demolition?

Demolition....

" Here comes the Ax...

Here comes the Smasher....

The Demolition....

Walkin' disaster...

Pain & Destruction....

Is their middle name...."

I loved the Demolition gimmick....

They got Crush, as Bill Eadie-(Ax), was suffering from severe heart failure, and Vince didn't want an in-ring death on his hands....

Hey, Owen....it'll be cool if you repel from the ceiling....

But they brought in Crush-(Bryan Adams), as the "3rd" member of Demolition....

I would've loved to see the original Ax & Smash fight LOD....

On an interesting side note....

A gimmick in WCW....

The "Kiss Demon"

When he made his debut, it was Bryan Adams who played the part for the first night only....

AND....

Ironically, Bryan Adams also teamed as a 3rd partner of LOD in Japan, teaming with Animal for a few matches...(Years before Droz joined up as an "official" 3rd LOD member....

🙂

besides my favorite tag team of all time, the British Bulldogs, Demolition was the greatest tag team ever. i LOVE thier ring entrance music as i play it before i prepare to play sports (along with Triple H's "the game"). how come they arent mentioned anymore on WWE telecasts when they talk about the past and great tag teams?

I remember being just 6 years old, and watchin a tape of the first ever Survivor Series. Hercules came out with that huge chain around his neck I thought he was invincible. All the greats seem to be dying out its really sad. Lets not forget the KILLER BEES and the YOUNG STALLIONS as great tag teams.

Though many people wrote off Demolition as Road Warrior ripoffs, their first title reign lasted 14 MONTHS! One of the longest tag title reigns in history. And they won over the fans when the Road Warriors were floundering in the NWA.
I wish that instead of the umpteen Rock and HHH figures they make now, why not make classic tag teams? That would rule!

Russia #1 Iron #1

What about the original Un-Amaricans The Iron Shiek and Nikoli Volkof. Personaly, once I found out Bret was a countryman, I decided the Hart Foundation was my favorit. There weren't many openly Canadian wrestlers in the WWE back then. Anyway this is suposed to be about Hurculeas, and even though he was never one of my big favorits, you had to like the guys style. Especialy when he was with Paul Roma in Power & Glory baby !!!

"We've got all the power, and we're taking al the glory !"

Words fail me, so I will just emote ....... :bouncybou 😉

It saddens me to hear of yet another golden oldie passing away. The industry these days bores the living shit out of me. I'm not suggesting that we go back to the 80's/90's cartoony style, but something's gotta change.
