Ok, so we all have things we love that we just KNOW everyone else would love if they knew about it...... sometimes we purposely keep it to ourselves, sometimes we yap our friends ears off about it.

I wanna know yours....

What movie that no one has seen blows your mind?

What band/musician would be massive if only the right people heard of them/him/her?

What book is the best kept secret around??

Here's some of mine:

Movie: Twin Falls Idaho - an amazing story of conjoined twins, the struggles they've faced, and the "interesting" women who enters their lives....

Musician: Brendan Benson: He is in The Raconteurs, so some people know who he is, but his solo stuff is insanely good.... His first record "One Mississippi" is the modern day incarnation of a Beatles record.... pop genius... Seriously amazing...

Book: After Dachau... a REALLY neat take on both the idea of paralell universes as well as multiple consciousnesses.... Daniel Quinn is a phenominal author that more people should check out....

I have tons and will post more periodically..... what are some of yours??

No music or films come to mind at the moment but I'm sure I'll think of some. I will however offer a little gem of a book many may not know about. I'll Gather My Geese is the story of Hallie Crawford Stillwell. In 1916 nineteen year old Hallie Crawford moved from Alpine Texas to Presidio, on the Texas-Mexico border. At the time, that region was still threatened by Pancho Villa. In 1918 Hallie married Roy Stillwell, a hard-bitten Texas rancher. Her book is an account of their lives on Roy's ranch, and the years after his death in 1948. Her humours tales of ranch life in the early 20th century Big Bend region will have you laughing, and the many hardships she endured may coax a tear or two. Hallie died in 1997, at age 99.

This is a great thread idea!

I will seconded that this is a great thread idea.

What movie that no one has seen blows your mind?

Strictly Ballroom - The first movie in Baz Luhrmann's Red Curtain Trilogy. Yes everyone saw Romeo and Juliet because Leo and Claire were in it, and everyone remembers the hot, yet brilliant, mess Moulin Rouge was. I bet Ballroom was off most people's radars - It is just so quirky and profound, quintessentially '90's yet timeless. And the tagline is one of my rotating mottos - "A life lived in fear is a life half lived."

What band/musician would be massive if only the right people heard of them/him/her?

Todd Snider - call him Roots Rock, Alt-Country, Americana, pot smokin', porn watchin' folk singin', lazy assed hippy if you want but listen to this and you will be converted.

What book is the best kept secret around??

Rachel's Holiday- Marian Keyes - Don't let the chick lit cover fool you. This book is about addiction, recovery, self love, abuse by neglect, boys in leather pants that love heavy metal, sex in the back of taxi-cabs, Ireland, oh and there is a little romance throw in there too.

T.O. Guy - Thanks! You know I had a hard time deciding between East Nashville Skyline or The Devil You Know for my link. Both are just so good! I will check out Cavaliers! Always looking for new stuff to listen to.

Movie: Mary and Max, an Australian claymation about two pen pals, one named Max who has Asberger's syndrome, and Mary, a social outcast and very lonely girl.

Music: I honestly don't know how popular they are, but I never hear people mention liking them - The Avett Brothers.

Book: I Am 8 Bit. Also The Four Hills of Life.

(I'm not positive these are widely unknown, but most people in my circle haven't seen/heard/read these things.)

What movie that no one has seen blows your mind?

There are a few:
Wing Chun with Michelle Yeoh. (First martial arts film I ever watched with an ass-kicking woman as the main character).
Kung Fu Hustle. (Funny with great fight scenes).
House of Flying Daggers with Zhang Ziyi. (I love it mostly for the cinematography.)
Equilibrium with Christian Bale. (The fight scenes were really good. There was a combination of guns and kung-fu).
Pan's Labyrinth
Fantastic Planet. French animated film from the 70's. It's beautiful.

Apollo Brown. He makes some of the greatest instrumentals ever.
Wax Tailor. Another fantastic music producer from Canada.

What book is the best kept secret around??

The Bad Girls' Guide to the Open Road. It's f*cking hilarious and insightful.

Movie:
All Quiet on the Western Front
One of the greatest war films ever made and few people see it just because it was made in 1930. It's over 80 years old, but if you've never seen it, it can still bring tears to your eyes. And visually, it was almost 20 years ahead of its time.

Music:
Caravan Palace
Electro-swing/jazz. One of the most unique sounds on the planet. Go buy their album. Right now.

Book:
Candy by Terry Southern.
An excellent piece of satire about pornography, media, new age religion, coming-of-age stories and pornography again. It owes some of its plot points to Voltaire and others to Penthouse magazine.

All Quiet on the Western Front is a powerful and moving film, well worth watching.
