Hurricanes can be interesting to sit through, as long as you have the essentials. And, of course, a generator doesn't hurt.😀

Good luck y'all. I've been through a few hurricanes. Personally, I find them worse than tornadoes but not as bad as floods.
Better lay in a few candles, portable radio batteries and a good book.

I've been watching the news about it. Looks proper chaotic. Those reporters (god bless them) are risking their lives by going close to the hurricane to get a better report and better ratings! However, there are no mentions of any fatalities, so that's a good thing. People have taken the right precautions. Ah, you lot will be fine.
I'm braced. Got my flashlights, extra batteries, radio, canned goods, and bottled water all set to go. To Kwil, Lite, TTD, Shygirl, Drew, and all my other chat buddies in the area, we're all pulling and praying for you! Hang titght and...

Up here in CT, we had a gorgeous day with just some clouds and stiff breezes. That will be changing, with some fairly heavy rain and stronger winds coming in tomorrow. But it's nowhere near what our friends and relatives along the midatlantic coast are experiencing. Hang in there gang!
As for the news coverage... Did anyone see Jim Cantore's report this afternoon on the weather channel? They'd been trying to explain to people why it wasn't a good idea to try to challenge the waves. He finally teathered himself and his camera man and stepped into the path of waves that were coming in. In ten seconds, they were both off their feet, underwater and the camera nearly lost. His comment (after choking and sputtering)? "Point made!" I hope nobody from here that's in the path is dumb enough to venture out in this. Stay in and safe or you may not have future opportunities to tickle/be tickled! 😉

Here in Lancaster, PA where Iam located. We are having tropical storm force winds of 40 MPH, with higher gusts, and a lot of heavy pelting rain. I dont care how hard it rains, just so long as the power doesnt go out. Power failures are a big problem here, and we've had several in the four years I've lived here, including due to a blizzard last Christmas Day that left heavy wet snow on the power lines, and caused a 9 hour blackout, and another power failure in June 2002 due to a thunderstorm. Iam praying that my power will stay on all night, and not be interrupted. The rain and wind is supposed to be with us until the afternoon tomorrow, and then it should be goodbye to Isabel. Iam just hoping she doesnt have too big an effect on me.

Even under a Cat I or Cat II, the potential for horror exists mightily. I lost my roof in a Cat II several years ago. Did I mention I was under the aforementioned roof when it went bye-bye!
Hurricanes are unpredictable beasts. Mix high winds with heavy rains and flooded areas and you've got yourself a recipe for something best avoided.
I hope all of you who find yourself in Izzy's path are secure and peaceful. If you still have power now butlose it later, remember, don't light candles. Small fires on wicks become large fires that trucks with hoses can't reach even in the eye of the storm. Here's a hope that your power returns swiftly, your possesions dry without warping, and that your bodies remain whole.

The rains reached us around 5am this morning...woke us up in time to close windows. We've had a bit of heavy rain on and off (mostly off) and that's it. The winds aren't even as strong as yesterday. So, this area definitely dodged things this time around. From what we've seen, it looks like veryone dodged things to some degree with the system weakening and moving so quickly. That's no help to those who got the direct hit. But, at least it wasn't as bad as it could have been. Have fun cleaning up, y'all. 😉

Parts of the Philadelphia area wound up without power. Hour to the northeast, we have a lot of sound and fury signifying nothing. Kind of like Donald Rumsfeld at a cabinet meeting.
we had some strong winds through the night in Southwestern CT and a bit of a downpour this morning but that was the extent of the storm here. I did hear a heavy branch hit my house at about 2:30a waking me up but that was the worst of it. I do believe some of my area lost power as schools were closed this morn.

Almost no wind and not much rain here in central CT. Now it's sunny out, of all things.
Although, where my dad lives in coastal NC, it's appanently so bad that they won't let anyone back on the island. Many of the houses on the ocean are gone, a hotel is falling down, power lines are down, roofs were ripped off, and there's water on the highway, half a mile into the island. Bad.

Just got an update on both my brother (near Manassas) and my cousin at the base in Norfolk. My brother is without power and they're under a water restriction...water for drinking and cooking only. No showers, etc. until they get power to the filtration systems restored. Lots of trees, power lines, etc. down in the area.
Not much info. about Norfolk. My cousin was one of the skeleton crew that stayed on base to secure things and was awakened at 4am to evacuate since the system moved in more quickly than expected. Everyone from the base got out fine and should be returning tonight or tomorrow according to what he told my uncle.

Prayers are always appreciated. We had no power, and no water, but both are back now, although we may have to boil water for a few more days.
We feel fortunate that we didn't experience what those in the Tidewater area of Virginia and the Outer Banks of North Carolina did. We hope all those who had to deal with the storm are safe and sound now.
Ann, we're glad your relatives are okay. You and Drew should drop by if you're in the area to visit sometime (although now may not be the best time!).
Drew, trees bending aren't that scary...I'M scary! 😀

Not to make light of the situation, as I know some people were hit very hard by this, but up here, I was awake most of the night, just in case something catostrophic happened. Nothing did. We had a few wind gusts that I've sneezed harder than, and hardly any rain to speak of. I count us very fortunate, however, and will continue to pray for those who didn't come through as well. Hang in there, everyone!
