Ok, so I was just told that you could be hypnotized to be more ticklish.

Is this true/something someone has done??

Anyone?

Let me know if you find out! I can have my wife hypnotized lol !

Ticklishness is physiological not psychological. I have my doubts that the power of "suggestion" could be that strong. :tickle:

I can't say for certain, but I'm sure if the 'lee was willing, it might assist them in getting a little more psychologically ticklish. Would love to help conduct a study on it, of course. :happyfloa

Studies have been done suggesting ticklishness is purely psychological, therefore, it might work (Although I doubt I could be more ticklish than I already am!) 🙄 :feets:

I tend to agree with this, because yu get people who are ticklish as kids (my fiancee for example), who just simply convince themselves they aren't. And he's not anymore.

Basically the will to shut down a responce to stimuli. That has to hold there is some sort of psychological responce or force behind it.

No?

I do believe it can work. I have worked on some self-induced hypnosis to get me more ticklish and it has worked to degree. I think that if I went to a professional that they could take it to the next level.
I believe Arenactor used it on his wife a while back and it worked.
It definitely can't hurt. :tickle:

Main reason I ask is because I did unfortunately not too long ago sustain some spinal damage...in other words, my tactile sensitivity went down some. :cry1:

So now I am not as ticklish as I used to be, and it drives me nuts.

So, I am looking for possibilities, even if odd.

I have heard this works although a professional hypnotist could answer better. Tickling has a large psychological component IMHO. Anything that would increase this psychological component would I think in theory make one more ticklish. 😀

I agree with this post. I went from being a very ticklish kid to being the only person in my seventh grade class who was not ticklish. I don't know why I lost it at such an early age. Once as an adolescent and maybe four or five times as an adult, I have been poked by surprise and did indeed react with a smile and my whole body jumping. At all other times I have had no reaction to being tickled. The surprise factor tells me that it is psychological.

If hypnotism could remove my mental barrier, it would undoubtedly work.

Whether it can or can't might be in question. But it would definately make a great scenario for a tickling story or video!

I remember reading once that someone experimented to see under what circumstances people would react most and it turned out to be when they were blindfolded and being tickled by someone they found sexually attractive (guessing they didn't try tying them up!)

Considering the wide variability in my ticklishness I would call it largely psychological. It would be interesting to characterize more in detail what makes someone with variable ticklishness more or less ticklish in an effort to recreate those conditions.

I was trained in hypnosis and did hynotherapy in my office for a while for smoking, weightloss, extinquishing unwanted habits, etc (I don't do it for work anymore, just fun)... and the main determining factor for whether a given suggestion will "work" (have a significant and lasting effect) is MOTIVATION. With someone who came to me with a request to quit smoking, for instance, I always tried to find out WHY he or she wanted to quit. Fairly often I would find that they didn't really want to quit smoking... what they wanted was for thier spouse/sig. other/parents/whatver to quit NAGGING them about smoking... these were the people I had to send away: telling them to come back in 6 months or a year or 5 years or never when they wanted to quit for their own reasons and just please someone else....

Long story short (too late!): hypnosis can help you do almost anything that you are capable of doing... but only if you truly want it.

great post

I have been really thinking about going to a hypnotist for this exact reason. If I do I'll let everyone know the results.
