i keep getting knocked off websites...and sometimes when i click on something on this forum, i'm taken to a completely different place..and i can't get my yahoo mail homepage to come up at all..i have to use msn home page and then click favorites and go to my mail...and damn it, i keep getting knocked off websites altogether..it's extremely frustrating..is it my computer? or internet explorer? thanks...

I'm sure there are more expert experts around here, but it sounds like you might have a virus and/or spyware problem, m'dear. You might try updating or installing an antivirus and antispyware program like AVG/Grisoft's programs to scan and look for trouble. But if someone has a better answer, speak up! 😉

and sometimes when i click on something on this forum, i'm taken to a completely different place..

That's the most telling symptom you provided, and it's a little scary.
Do you get taken to the 'same' different place each time, or random websites which have nothing to do with this forum ?
Or maybe to websites you've visited earlier in the day ?

It definitely sounds like ad ware/spy ware/virus. Probably just spy ware and ad ware though.

I'd suggest getting an anti-virus program if you are going to get one. AVG anti virus is free and usually does the job, though I'm not sure where to find it anymore as it's old, hence the free version.

Norton would be my second suggestion, but that's probably 50 smackers.

AVG has a program with anti virus, spyware and a firewall for around $70.00.I saw it a few weeks ago at one of the stores here in town.

strange websites that say something in them about the website i was just on...such as...for example...when i click back to something here, instead of returning to the previous place, i am sent to a strange website that might also say quick ways to find the ticklingmediaforum....

and earlier when i was on my yahoo mail, it did the same thing, and said quick ways to find yahoo mail...plus various other thingies...

i ran my Norton three times today...and my ad ware....and it still is doing this..o god...not another major virus..i'll be like so in trouble lol..and this time i didn't click on anything weird like i did the only other time i had a major virus...a few years ago i went to a live porn webcam feed...bad naughty me..and paid dearly by getting a major virus that in turn spread to david's laptop....

I would suggest to get a spyware checker like adaware or spybot those two are both free. Even if norton has a spyware checker in its suite, its still possible for spyware to sneak in. Although if you have norton there are claims that spybot and norton are not compatable.

Sounds like you may have one of those hijacker thingies that some websites (especially search sites) use to artificially inflate their traffic in order to increase ad revenues.
Spybot 1.4 just might find it and get rid of it for you.
1.5 is out but I like 1.4.
http://www.tucows.com/preview/310138

It takes a long-ass time to run (15-20 min) but really does the job.
I also recommend (and run) Spywareblaster.
www.javacoolsoftware.com/spywareblaster.html
It keeps these nasties off your machine.

First of all, don't listen to anything anyone has said so far.

Once all of those are out of your head, print out this page and follow these steps:

1. Uninstall Norton completely. Seriously, just get rid of it. If you need help uninstalling it, PM me. It's a shitty program that does NOT do it's job and only really slows your computer down.

2. Reboot the computer and go into Safe Mode with Networking. In other words, restart the computer and press the F8 button until you get a screen that has a bunch of options that mention Safe Mode. If you're having a hard time with this step, let the computer boot normally and pull the plug out of the back as soon as you see the Windows XP splash screen with the little green of blue scrolling bar under it. Then when you reboot you'll get a safe mode screen...just hit F8 to get the Safe Mode with Networking option.

3. When you get into windows, go online and go to www.ewido.com . Click the Scan Now button on the left side of the screen. Follow the instructions (it will prompt you to install ActiveX Controls, etc) and after it downloads the latest definition database, click the Scan button that pops up. It will do a very thorough scan of your computer for spyware/adware/malware. When it finishes, click the Remove Infections button that activates after the scan is complete.

4. Repeat steps 2 and 3. You want to reboot and do a full scan to eliminate any duplicate problems that replicated themselves or were resident in memory.

5. Boot into Safe Mode With Networking again and go to www.free.grisoft.com and download two files: AVG Anti-Virus Free 7.5 AND AVG Anti-Spyware Free 7.5. Install these programs and reboot the computer. Let it boot normally. Update the AVG Anti-Spyware program via the menu it has, then run a full scan overnight with both programs.

Once these five steps will are complete, your computer will be much cleaner, if not perfectly clean, of spyware and virus infections.

Get back to me when you've finished these steps?

hmmm.....perhaps your poor computer finally crapped out because you post so much.:wiseowl: hehe

spybot

run spybot, get a good firewall going, and good virus protection, and quit sufing the net for tickling videos, lol.

Have same problem...

My comp. started doin' the same thing! Talked 2 a comp tech said 2 much spyware. I have 2 systems: AVG, which is the active one & Norton, supposedly diabled. He agreed the Norton needed 2 b removed. I am going 2 let him take care of it. However, I have 2 say with all the fingers & feathers running around it's a wonder the comps. don't go completely crazy. :bouncybou

Oh good grief, frustrating ain't it ?
Ok here's a suggestion. Replace IE with Firefox:
http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/
Keep IE around for those times when you need it, for instance to download MSFT patches.
Firefox is free and more secure than IE.
Good luck.

Go through the ewido scans again. Often times a piece of spyware or malware will replicate itself again and again, you have to keep scanning til you get it. if there's something it's not getting, let me know...there are specialized tools out there to fix more severe rootkit, vundo, and smitrem problems.
