something that I am pretty darn proud of. I am not one to toot my own horn but this is something that I have been wanting to do for the last ten years and finally have accomplished it. I have lost almost 55 pounds. With all the compliments I get from people that know me, the fact I can wear clothes in my closet that I haven't been able to wear in the last five years, and most important, the way I feel, it makes me wonder why I didn't try in earnest sooner. Nonetheless, I did it, and I wanted to share it with you.

It may not be a big deal to some of you, but it is to me. The latest "accomplishment" is that I pulled out a pair of size 36 jeans and I was able to actually get into them with a little effort. Another 10 pounds or so, and I can add that to my "new" wordrobe.

I was sick for about five days. I had just started to exercise and I get sick! I was really angry because it seems like every time I make a decision to lose weight and live healthier, something stupid like this happens.

I've lost 17 lbs, and have mysteriously (yes, mysteriously) regained 9. Talk about see-saws and rollercoasters!

I'm not going to give up, I'm just a little disgusted and a little bummed out. It's like the fat gremlins are always hanging around looking for ways to disrupt my goals and generally piss me off!!!😡 😡

Hey Kis, I wish you all the best in your weight loss...
It doesn't matter how big or small a person is it is that they are healthy. I person can be 250 lbs and be very fit...but "big boned" whereas someone who weights 150 could be overweight if they have a small frame.

Anyway, the reason you might be sick is that your body just wasn't ready to exercise with you LOL...
What I mean is you may have over done your workout a bit and caused some stress to your to body and weakened your immune system enough for you to get sick...
Just take it easy and don't rush the weight loss...do what Giantfan said, simply set 10 lb goals not "I will lose xyz lbs by Christmas"..you might in fact loose that amount but if by Thanksgiving you haven't lost half that weight then you might get discouraged and quit.

Umm, one other annoying thing about excersize is that muscle weights more than fat, so if you are getting "FIT" you might be gaining muscle AND of course losing weight and you might weigh MORE the first week or two than you did before you start but then the lbs will really fall off quickly...that first 2-4 weeks is the toughest.

Good luck to you Kis!
Ummm and don't forget tickling is a great workout...both as lee and ler!!

Thanks Tommy for your kind words

Weight gain snuck up on me for years. My six pack was covered by drinking many six packs over the years. It's true that the first few weeks are the toughest. After that, it becomes part of a routine. Now I can't live without it.

Another helpful hint, in light of Tommy's comments, is that it may be a good idea to invest in a scale that measures your body fat percentage as well as your weight. I know over the last week and a half I have hit a wall but having a that type of scale and it tells me that my percentage is going down. When I first got the scale, it was reading anywhere between 26-29%, eventhough I lost only a few pounds since getting the scale (about 1 month ago) my % now fluculates between 21-24%. Needless to say, I have been hitting the weights hard

Hey folks,

I have recovered and returned to the gym for the first time in a week. I hit the bike for 20 mins, and some light weights. I feel like such a wimp, but I didn't want to overtax myself. I'm not in the greatest shape, you know.

I don't know if I mentioned it before, but I have fibromyalgia. It's a very debilitating (pardon the spelling) disease that attacks muscle fibers (hence fibro-myalgia). It has a multitude of symptoms including depression and mood swings, brain fog, and a host of other goodies!😡 😡 It played a big role in the ending of my marriage because I was out of control and no one could get to the bottom of my problems. It wasn't the only reason we split up, but it was a big one.

So I'm back at it again, and I'll keep trying until I achieve success. You see, I can't afford to get any worse or gain any more weight. I'm not doing this as some sort of vanity ploy or to regain lost youth. It's about being healthy enough to participate in life and stop standing at the sidelines. It's about going to my daughter's basketball games this fall/winter without feeling like the human remake of "free willy". My kid loves me and she's happy with me as I am, but she knows I'm not happy with it so she supports my efforts. It's about going from my house to my car without feeling like I'm going to die on the way or my back and feet aching from trying to support this much on my frame.

I'm not looking for a pity party folks, just felt the need to talk. Actually, I'm pretty happy--at least I know what's going on with me even though nothing has worked for me medically or herbally. There are people in this world who are sick and have no idea what's wrong with them. That is something to feel bad about.

Well, I have a paper to write and some accounting homework to do (hate it!). Thanks for listening. I promise my next post won't be this long.🙂

You go babe!

My own weight loss has been slow but steady and I've managed to keep it off~I'm diabetic so I need constant feeding (Atkins & other deprivation diets aren't an option for me) Hon~You should talk more to Frankie (fingerfeathers) He treats a lot of fibromyalgia patients in his relexology profession...Just a thought.

XOXO

I get the feeling featherfingers will contact me soon....🙂 🙂

You were right! Kis, first of all, I was only joking a few posts ago. I don't need to feel your hint of love handles... I respect you and Giantfan for your efforts to improve your health...and, Steph is right. I worked on a client with fibromyalgia just last night. She had poor circulation and her feet hurt a lot, as well. Believe it or not, I brought out my electric toothbrush and applied it on the soles of her feet. This brought her incredible relief! She could actually walk a bit better afterward without as much pain. Her massage therapist friend (who I worked on, as well) is going to incorporate the electric toothbrush into her sessions, too. So give it a try. Find a Reflexologist in your town and see if they can help you. Let me know the results.

Now THAT is a remedy I'd like to know better 🙂

Some things we use for tickling purposes can also benefit everyone, if we put our minds to it. I'd like to see a world where, instead of wars, we'd engage in tickle fights. Last one laughing wins. Giantfan, this is a great thread, by the way. You've inspired us all! Look at Kis! Way to go, y'all! (Round Of Applause!!!)

That is why we have the forum. We'll be behind you all the way as well. I will reiterate, if there is anything I (or anybody else) can do to help, you can post it on the board or PM me if you want to keep it private.

You are doing the right thing by working out "within yourself". You will be able to work at higher levels if you stick with it, hence you will be working harder w/o feeling you are overtaxing yourself. Another thing that worked well for me anyway is that if you take up a sport you enjoy, you will be burning calories and having fun in the process. I play racquetball ~3X a week, which I incorporate with my weight lifting regimine. I do cardio as a fill in if I can't get a raquetball game the day after I lift (I don't like to lift two days in a row).

Thank you for your kind words, featherfingers. I know all too well how she feels. there is nothing worse than your clothes not fitting right and always being "aware" of it. I am always coming up with ideas on what worked for me and passing it along.

Whenever I get an urge for a late night snack or, something I know I shouldn't eat, I should refer to this thread, read it from beginning to end, and see if I am still starving.

Unfortunately, I am STARVING RIGHT NOW!!! I'll have to settle for this stupid banana when I really want pizza!😡

Oh well!

Thank you everyone with your suggestions and your encouragement. I'm pretty sore right now and I'm trying to catch up on homework. I think I'm going to call it a night though and figure how to make up the homework later.

Featherfingers, no offense taken at all about the "lovehandles"! Actually, I found it an interesting proposition.😀

Well then, uh huh...ummm... whadd'ya know, I'm speechless! (By the way, Kis, there are fantastic protein bars available at your local health food store that can satisfy your hunger between meals)

Yeah, Mr. and Mrs. President Featherfingers... I like the sound of that. Steph would make liberals out of all those conservatives, I tell you what! And for everyone who loses weight to get healthy, I promise a tax cut for every pound you lose! Personally, I'd do away with the States and just call us, "The United"! Giantfan and Kis would be my Fitness Counsel. Seriously, I think the medical field has all of the cures for obesity, disease, etc. but they're holding out on us because if there are no sick people, the Doctors go out of business. Greed can make people do sinister things. (By the way, no disrespect intended to any conservatives out there)

No disrespect taken! But you have a very valid point. I think the food industry is right up there too. I think things are added to food in order to get folks addicted. Not just carbs either. Chemicals in order to keep people coming back. Look at the ingredients in fast food. Lots of sugar and chemicals with names I can't pronounce. You even have to watch the salads they make. And they don't even cook the food anymore--they use microwaves.

I guess I just have to be responsible for what I put in my mouth because the food industry isn't looking out for me!

I'm actually going to prepare a recipe for a raw foods dish tomorrow, my first try at it! If you can afford it, raw foods is incredibly healthy for mind, body & spirit. You've got to buy organic produce and ingredients, which is why it's a bit more expensive. I stopped eating at McDonald's over 6 years ago and I don't miss it one bit. Try a vegetarian restaurant, for starters. You might be able to pick up a good cookbook.

Another thing I noticed is that when you go out to a restaurant, the portions that are served to you are humungous. I think that is a big part of the obesity problem in America today.

For the record, when we were kids about 25 years ago, do you remember portions being that big?

I'd like to hear more about this hon...
XOXO

I go to this vegetarian buffet every week or so... and I definitely overeat. I feel it when I leave. Sometimes I justify it by saying, "Wait, it's vegetarian"! Old habits die hard.

no pain, no gain. Keep at it and the soreness will go away cuz your body will get used to it

No pain no gain is one thing, struggling through the fibro is another. But I went to the gym again today (at 8:30 at night for goodness sake) and crawled to the bike again. Tomorrow's a swim day (at least I think so). Oh the joys of exercise😕

But your efforts won't go unrewarded! I got up at 5am to take my walk this morning (and nearly every morning). My pillow sure looks lonely without me but I've got to do it! You can, too. Hey, we're all in this together, separated by miles but joined at the heart. And Steph, the book of recipes is called "Raw Food-The Un-Cook Book", by Julian. (He uses one name and I hope that's it. I gave the book back to my friend a few days ago)
