When I'm in a Scotch whiskey kind of mood, I go for Laphroaig (pronounced la-froig) myself. Love that peaty flavor.

Mostly, I go for VERY dark rum (Rhum Negrita from Haiti is no longer imported to the USA for some damn reason or other, multiple expletives deleted!) or a rich flavored smoky brandy like Marquis De Montesque Armagnac or Metaxa 5 star, or one of the highly aged Spanish products made from Sherry grapes, Like Gran Duque De Alba, Cardenal Mendoza, Lepanto or Veterano.
