I.Q stands for "I quit", as in smoking. There are obviously alot of reasons, such as being around for my family, and an overall healthier lifestyle, but one is a because of a step up I am taking.

As some of you know, I have begun studying martial arts over the last year, and I decided that I wanted to begin sparring with other students. My school holds sparring once a week. For those not that familiar with sparring, it's like getting into a boxing ring but doing Tae Kwon Do vs. boxing. Anyway, during one of my recent classes, I was doing some no contact sparring which is an very abbreviated round of actual sparring. It's only about a 30 second round as opposed to a 3 minute round in regular sparring. I was surprised at how winded I was after what seems like a very short time and I know I am in decent shape.

I know that tobacco addiction is a very strong addiction, but I have done it before, but for reasons I'd rather not mention, started again. I think one thing I have going for me is that I have never bneen a heavy smoker, but by the same token, I have smoked at certain tmes of the day as a form of relaxation, and I consider myself a creture of habit. I actually have been feeling guilty lately because sometimes when I smoke I think of my kids, so that alone can be an incentive.

Wish me luck.

Good luck man. Not an easy thing to do...as I have tried and failed more than a few times myself.
I don't smoke cigs anymore, but do a few times a day enjoy a cigar...outside, after my kids are asleep.
So I cut myself down from probably a pack a day, to a 2 cigar a day...not those huge ones either, those small little ones.

One day I know I'll try again to kick the WHOLE habit, but for now I'm content not smoking anywhere near my kids, and only after they are asleep.

GOOD LUCK!!
Let us know how it goes.....the first 2 days are the hardest.

I quit smoking ten years ago, although I had tried several times before but always started up again. Then two things happened that made it a lot easier for me.

First, I got sick with a really bad flu, so bad that I literally couldn't smoke for about ten days. By the time it was over, I realized I had been so miserable with flu symptoms that I had missed all the nicotine withdrawal.

Around the same time I read an article that said that nicotine cravings last for 3-5 minutes. So I made a decision to not worry about quitting smoking, I would just worry about making it through that 3-5 minute period.

And that seemed to do the trick for me. I was always able to handle those few minutes, and it never got any more serious than that.

I don't know that it would work for anyone else, I have kind of a weird brain, but I thought it was worth throwing out there.
