Image in signatures are way out of hand in this forum

I think people have images in their signatures, that are way too big. There are a lot of threads where people make short posts, and the signatures take up well over 10 times as much vertical space as the messages. You have to spend a lot of time scrolling just to read a few lines of text. Also, it's tacky. When I'm scrolling through pictures of chicks, I really don't need to see some dude's life-size mug staring back at me, or some guy showing off his muscles. I also don't need to see the same clipstore ads over and over again

IN ENORMOUS SIZES.

Even if it's a girl, I don't need to see a large-size picture that I've seen before, getting in the way of the text.

Couldn't these signatures at least be limited in size?

You can edit options to not show signatures. Just uncheck the box if this is bothering you so much.

I agree. I mean, mine is on the larger side, but I still think it's acceptable. If I have to scroll down because your signature does not fit completely in the page, it's way too fucking big. No one needs to see a life size picture of your head and shoulders. kthanx. There are size restrictions and usually Myriads will ask you to change it if he notices it's too big. It could be that he has not noticed some, so if there's one that's particularly huge, I'm sure you could send him a PM about it. Sucks that other than that, your only option is turning off all signatures.

Signature pictures are getting to this crazy point where the poster's stamp means more than the content of what they say. And that is a problem.

I have no qualms with an ancedote or a picture of a video. But if your one post takes up my entire browser and breaks it, it's to the point of being stupid.

In all seriousness, is this an example of a too-big sig pic? I don't want to look like I'm coming through the screen at ya...

Like Sarah Said..turn em off if ya dont want to see them...easy as that.....

Sometimes the sigs are better content then the posts themselves...

It's a shame that it has to be all or nothing. Unfortunate that people who have valid concerns here get that answer sometimes.

and it is also a shame that a handful want to spoil things for others.....

but that is life...

Not sure what that has to do with signatures, but like I said riker, I think your best bet is to report signatures that you feel are too big to Myriads. He can assist you better than any of us can.

The size of sigs is already limited.

Alot of us find them a fun way to express ourselves and entertain ourselves/others. I agree that it's a shame you can't opt to turn off certain people's signatures, but for now the option is only all or nothing.

Also, because size is already limited, I think the only time someone will be asked to shorten their sig is if it's so big you have to scroll sideways to see it/read posts. Otherwise, they're within the current size limitation so I think they'd be left as is.

Size is not a factor in the signature process.

Your signature is limited in the amount of characters it can use.

Right - so technically you could have one gargantuan picture in your signature, but you can't have 12 pictures and 87 quotes. And I haven't come across a sig pic that actually was too big for the screen in quite some time. I think those are nipped in the bud fairly quickly.

I have an older screen on the computer in my bedroom that doesn't accommodate large picture/signature sizes. My laptop that I'm on does and it's fairly new. Maybe you need to consider replacing Old Man Jenkins computer if he's wheezing away online.

He's right.

And she's right.

But whatcha gonna do? That's my contribution.

I very much agree with you here. As for my signature, I know that it probably annoys some people because it has a lot of moving action goin' on, but as Skippy said, it expresses a large part of who I am, that of a lesbian and a Xena fangirl. Of course, if my sig is too large and obnoxious, I'd tone it down a bit (even though it'd break my heart a little xD)

You get a pass because your sig animations are damned funny.

I guess by the definition above your post - yea, it is pretty huge... but I never thought about it to be honest. Your sig just means 2 or 3 extra clicks on my little mouse wheel. That's really about it. lol. I don't really get what the problem with big sig pics are, tbh.

There isn't, really. Trust me, if your sig is too big, you'll receive a friendly PM from Myriads asking you to reduce it. You reduce it, no harm no foul. And since none of us have received any of those PMs, then the pics are within acceptable guidelines.

But just like in regular day-to-day life, some people will complain merely for the sake of complaining. Take what amusement you can get from it and disregard the rest.

The first part, sure. That seems to explain the issue.

The second part; you're framing this guy like he's trying to start some heavy shit, acting like he is bitching up some major storm by posting this thread. He isn't. Take a chill pill stardust. He isn't out to fuck you and yours in the butt.

The second part of my post wasn't meant to single out the OP. I was more directing it at all of those who seem to be making petty complaints over every little thing around here lately. This thread is just another in a long string as of late. I don't believe the OP intended to start a flame war over this, so therefore I will no longer comment on that aspect.

To the topic at hand, as Lyz had stated, sig pics are a way for posters to express themselves. Granted, some can be over the top or even downright annoying. Anyone else remember the brief period people were able to have sounds in their sigs? Ugh!! Either way, it's individual expression and, quite frankly, gives the place some color. Imagine what threads would look like with NO signatures. Threads would be nothing but endless walls of text, broken only by a new post. Quite frankly, I don't care for such godawful blandness. But maybe that's just me.

I think they've tamed down a lot more then what they used to was.

IMO, they do tend to be too big. Personally, I'd have a limit on the amount of images in a signature and on the size - maybe 150-200 pixels vertically, 500 horizontally, and one image. It's enough to express yourself with. It's not so much that you'll be pissing off a bunch of people by forcing them to scroll through reams of stuff they've seen before.

Seriously, if you can't express yourself in a 200x500 rectangle, then there may be a problem. You don't need to sum your entire literal self up after every. single. post. If you really do need that much space? Use a blog post or something. Or maybe get a Myspace, you'll have all the space in the world there.

I've been on forums that didn't allow sig pics at all. They ran fine. People expressed themselves through the quality of their posts, not the size of their signature.

(For the record, I keep signatures in general turned off, and also keep mine fairly short.)

On the plus side, at least not everyone is signing all their posts off outside the space of the signature... I've seen 50 page rants on people doing that in some places.
