In every life, a little rain must fall.

I'm Thankful for today.

I'm so thrilled to share some nice updates on my Mom with you all.

We did meet with the oncologist and the radiation doctors both of which are very caring and sensitive to the needs of the patient as well as the support group that surrounds her. I'm so impressed with the information they are sharing with all of us. Mom has decided to try a Radiation and Chemo combination. If it's too hard on her she may decide to stop it but she wants to give it a try.

At all Mom's appointments there have been at least 2 of us kids joining her which not only leads to lots of laugher and fun but is also a great way to ensure we have all the information. The doctors are also letting Mom tape all the appointments so she has them to listen to later. We take down lots of notes and keep them all in one binder for everyone to review. We are also keeping a diary so whoever takes over can review the previous days to see how she's doing.

It's gotten to a point where I'm wondering who is taking care of whom. She's walking every morning and night, reading the paper, fixing meals and doing all her normal daily activites. She's been swimming at my brothers and is heading to the Y today to restart her water walking with my uncle.

Starting next week we are not going to stay with her 24/7. She's doing fine and she wants us "outta here". My brothers live close to her and will be checking on her each evening as will several of the neighbors.

I've become her social secretary! LOL I have people who are anxious to help to drive mom to her radiation treatments and doctor appointments or take her shopping. She'll be getting 30 treatments and I've got 20 volunteers! So we have back-ups for the back-ups!

Mom has always been quite a social butterfly. She has lunch and dinner outtings set up with lots of friends. This isn't new stuff. It's just normal activites that she's anxious to enjoy again.

Cards and letters are coming in daily and she's been surprised by all the attention. We told her that we figure it's Karma. She's been so giving all her life that now she's reaping the benefits. My brothers and I are all so thankful and feel so blessed that we have such a caring Mom who means so much to so many people.

So for today... it's good. I'm heading home Friday to have another long relaxing weekend at my house and will get back into my regular routine next week. I've been working from her house which works out well but it will be nice to get back into the office.

So we are thoroughly enjoying our time with Mom. This whole situation has brought our close family even closer which is incredible because we've always been close. This has just enhanced that even more. Yep - another blessing.

I'm Thankful for today.

Good to hear, Jan. It's always great to see folks pulling together to help one another out.

If you want to gab, give a yell. (I can tell you some of the things that my mom did over the past year to help get through her own chemo, too.)

Jan:

That is totally awesome! I am glad to hear how well she is doing under the circumstances. She is lucky to have all of you in her corner as well. I really believe that makes a difference. Your mother will be in our thoughts and prayers. If you do what P50 said, you will be happier and you will be a better daughter to your mom as well.

One thing I admire about your mom as well is her approach on life where she wants to celebrate things in her life while she is still with you. that is the best present she could give anyone.

Be well and I hope your mom gets well soon as well

Update on my Mom

Thank you everyone for all the nice emails. It's sure helpful to share experiences with those of you who have gone through this type of situation before. Although this is rough to go through it's been filled with many blessings.

Mom is doing pretty good. She's still walking every morning and getting her swimming in a couple times a week. Her memory is beginning to get worse but she's still functioning and working through it all. Notebooks and post-it's are all over the house! Looks like the walls are quilted now! LOL

She started the radiation and chemo yesterday. We've got family and friends who will take her one day a week for the next 6 weeks.

So.. her garden is blooming like crazy. She's been working on it every day. She's got roses and flowers, fruit and vegetables, lush green ivy and flowering orchids all showing their colors right now. Everyone who comes over to visit gets to come out to the backyard to enjoy the fabulous sights and smells in her yard.

So... we are still taking it one day at a time. Today is a good day!
