I'm Thankful for today.
I'm so thrilled to share some nice updates on my Mom with you all.
We did meet with the oncologist and the radiation doctors both of which are very caring and sensitive to the needs of the patient as well as the support group that surrounds her. I'm so impressed with the information they are sharing with all of us. Mom has decided to try a Radiation and Chemo combination. If it's too hard on her she may decide to stop it but she wants to give it a try.
At all Mom's appointments there have been at least 2 of us kids joining her which not only leads to lots of laugher and fun but is also a great way to ensure we have all the information. The doctors are also letting Mom tape all the appointments so she has them to listen to later. We take down lots of notes and keep them all in one binder for everyone to review. We are also keeping a diary so whoever takes over can review the previous days to see how she's doing.
It's gotten to a point where I'm wondering who is taking care of whom. She's walking every morning and night, reading the paper, fixing meals and doing all her normal daily activites. She's been swimming at my brothers and is heading to the Y today to restart her water walking with my uncle.
Starting next week we are not going to stay with her 24/7. She's doing fine and she wants us "outta here". My brothers live close to her and will be checking on her each evening as will several of the neighbors.
I've become her social secretary! LOL I have people who are anxious to help to drive mom to her radiation treatments and doctor appointments or take her shopping. She'll be getting 30 treatments and I've got 20 volunteers! So we have back-ups for the back-ups!
Mom has always been quite a social butterfly. She has lunch and dinner outtings set up with lots of friends. This isn't new stuff. It's just normal activites that she's anxious to enjoy again.
Cards and letters are coming in daily and she's been surprised by all the attention. We told her that we figure it's Karma. She's been so giving all her life that now she's reaping the benefits. My brothers and I are all so thankful and feel so blessed that we have such a caring Mom who means so much to so many people.
So for today... it's good. I'm heading home Friday to have another long relaxing weekend at my house and will get back into my regular routine next week. I've been working from her house which works out well but it will be nice to get back into the office.
So we are thoroughly enjoying our time with Mom. This whole situation has brought our close family even closer which is incredible because we've always been close. This has just enhanced that even more. Yep - another blessing.
I'm Thankful for today.
