in need of health advice

I recently found out from my parents that I could very well have acid reflux disease, thanks to my dad's genes. is there anyone out there that suffers from it as well, and can you give me some ideas on combatting this, doctor appointment aside? any help is appreciated!

Sorry but,

Doctor visit a must. Perscription meds needed. Nothing over the counter will remedy the situation really and a diet of NON spicy foods will be in order for a while until the situation is cleared.
No need to panic but get your ass to the Doc. Gone UNtreated and you could be in some trouble.

I have acid reflux disease (also known as GERD, gastroesophogeal reflux disease).

TTD is right, you need to see an gastroenterologist and have the appropriate medication for you perscribed to get the condition under control. (Prevacid and Nexium, each available by perscription only, are often used.)

If you're a drinker, alcohol only makes it worse. So, do not drink!Left untreated, acid reflux affect your esophagus and lead to big trouble. Follow the other poster's advice and immediately see your doctor.

Sorry to hear it Cloud. Unfortunately I gotta echo the rest of the gang. There are mild OTC remedies that may help but if you get no relief from them, please do visit your doc. (Try switching to a bland diet as well.) Many of my patients suffer from this as does my best friend and she will eventually require surgery to resolve the problem. Do keep us posted?
