I'm confused.

Tickling is a fetish for me. Therefore, i see it as being sexual. Only sexual. To me, its sort of like making out, or feeling-up. So when someone i am attracted to does it to me, it turns me on. *ALOT*. When a friend does it to me, its like a joke, like if i was dared to make out with a friend, o if they jokingly grabbed my ass (i don't know if you guys have friends like i do lol) i'd do it. Not really a sexual turn on (well..usually...) but its funny, a little exciting.

But family....THATS DISGUSTING! For me, anyway. I've seen that a lot of people on here are totally okay with tickling in the family.

So i ask you, not with a sarcastic bite, nor with an intention to get cyber-smacked in the face: How can you be okay with tickling within the family when it is also your fetish?

I would assume people who have the tickling fetish would have the inclination and know-how to shut down their hormones when getting tickled by a family member. If you have problems with keeping their hormones in check, when you're getting tickled, think of something non-sexual like Gilligan's Island or baseball....

When one of my adult female cousins hugs me and kisses me it's not sexual. Some kind of censor in my mind is telling me, "She's family" and I have no sexual reaction.

If a woman of the same age and attractiveness who was a stranger did the same, I would likely get an erection.

Just as with kissing, to me it's the same with tickling. I just don't get a sexual reaction when tickled by a female cousin. (I have no sisters.)

What you say could start a whole other debate. How could someone shut down their hormones?

When it comes to me, it is not that my hormones would say "oh, my family is tickling me, and im getting turned on". My hormones, and my mind, all at once, would simply say "EW!" Just like if a family member tried to do something else sexual to me.

Thanks to the others for your responses also. Like a lot of you, i am fortunate to not be tickled by them anymore either. I can't even stand seeing it happen. Ugh!

To some people, tickling is completely playful. There's nothing sexual to it for them.

Others can separate the playfulness from the sexual. When I'm with boyfriend or some of previous lers, it's sexual. I get turned on by it. I've been tickled by some of my friends, but it was completely playful, and some of my friends I consider like sisters. I've never been tickled by any of my family members, but if that were to happen I know it would be completely playful.

That's the thing though, isn't it? 🙂 Just as there are different "levels" of kissing, i.e. sexual and non-sexual, there are different levels of tickling. At least to me, tickling can be either sexual or playful. That said, I would not engage even in a playful tickle-fight with someone I didn't feel close to, and since I'm not particularly tight with, say, my parents, I wouldn't want them touching me for THAT reason. Other family members of mine, such as cousins... eh, my cousins tag-teamed me all the time when I was a kid, and I'm not disgusted by that. I can't stand to be tickled by family, or tickled in front of family, or even discuss tickling with family. Not a soul (haha I typed sole the 1st time 😛) in my family even knows I'm ticklish. A few have tried over the years but since I was about 14 or 15 I've been able to completely and entirely turn it off with them. It's just a mental block that doesn't allow me to be ticklish around my family. It just grosses me out.

That having been said, I have no problem tickling my little niece. I think it's a cute fun way to interact and bond with her. Maybe cause I'm predominantly lee in the tk fetish world?

But also, it's not always sexual for me even with folks around here. There are times when it can be a huge turn on depending on the ler and the situation and the relationship, and there are times when it's just a bunch of friends being goofy with no sexual undertone whatsoever.

It all depends on how you view tickling as a whole. If it's always sexual to you, of course you're gonna have a problem with tickling within a family. If it separates for you depending on the circumstances, it might not be so difficult.

Pretty much how I feel about it.

Tickling's not so hardwired in my sexuality that I'd freak out if someone I wasn't attracted to sexually tickled me. I'd freak out because I absolutely HATE public tickling; the loss of control is crushing and humiliating to me. A coworker playing around got me around the neck once; it was all I could do to keep from screaming in the office. It's just not my thing.

I learned years ago that everyone has their preferences, turn ons and offs; that's what makes this place interesting.

I'm the same way, tickling can be very sexual for me, but it is not necessarily. If it happens with family or platonic friends, it's just fun (and sometimes annoying) but not sexual.

Like AnnieHall said, it's all very context dependent, and a completely non-sexual thing in family/friend situations.

I can tell you, though, I'm certainly weirded out by some of the stories that have family members tickling each other in a sexual way. That's very strange to me.
