Okay, guess what the archidocese in New Orleans decided to do about priests sexually abusing kids.. they now have a hotline. Wow...I can hear sighs of relief all around Louisina. Now if a parent's kid is sexually abused by a priest they can call those people instead of the police.

That quote is from a friend (a priest) who treats these guys and is just as disgusted as anyone else with the behavior of our bishops and chancery personnel staff in NOT dealing with these guys.

My uncle was a priest in New Orleans for almost 50 years before he passed away about ten years ago. I prefer to think of him as a one of the "good ones" that was a an honest and decent man. I can tell you from watching his actions when he was alive, that he'd be the first one to say that this is a most assinine response to be thought up.

As hard as it is for many to think of ANY priest as more than a cild molestor these days, I can say that they aren't all like that. It would be too easy to solve if that were the case. I'm waiting for some of the men who truely follow the faith they choose to stand up and get vocal. I'm just very disappointed it hasn't happened in grand form yet.

Ah, well, to answer your question Jason....yep..stupidity IS a religion. Lots of people practice it EVERYDAY. Unfortunately, the ones who do...are they ones who don't realize it. You see, even VERY INTELLIGENT people are often VERY stupid.

After the latest round of insanity in the Boston diocese, we found ourselves visitting my inlaws parish for Mass. The pastor got up and addressed the issue very frankly and eloquently. He encouraged people to call him personally at any time of the day or night if they knew of any abuse by clergy taking place (past or present). But, he made it clear that it wouldn't end in a chat with him. He promised to call the diocese about it...AFTER accompanying them to the police station for moral support as they reported it there. That took a lot of guts! I praise God for that gift.
