Do you think that we are born with this interest, or do you think that it is somehow acquired? Personally, I think that I was born a ler. I'm curious to know what you think.

Sincerely,
Bob

hmmm not sure myself. i think you are born with either being ticklish or not being ticklish. i dont think you can acquire it. i do know i am a born submissive. but thats a different story. about the interest aspect, i suppose one could acquire that in time.

We could be born with it even if it's not genetic - a particular neurological arrangement that develops before or shortly after birth. I have a feeling that it's a combination of a favorable brain structure acquired that way along with some learned responses.

It's sort of like an "acquired taste."

I would like to think that its a genetic trait, although we will never fully know the truth. I know several of my cousins that like/love tickling too... although only one will admit to it (see my true story) I have seen the evidence in other cousins, like constantly tickling their spouse/ signoficant other, etc... And I'm pretty sure my kids are going to have it too. 😀

My daughter has it. I try to keep her in check, but she'll tickle nayone anytime.

My wife just looks at me and rolls her eyes knowing she got it from me! 😛

Thank you

I want to thank all of you who took the time to answer this question for all of your valuable insights.

I've never posted here before, but I saw this thread and it interested me.
I think the interest for tickling could be a combination of both. But from my experiences I grew up with a lot of tickling,so I guess I kinda got into it from that, coz I was comfortable with it happening.

I don't think there's any reason to think that it's genetic.

In fact, most studies on similar issues all indicate it's entirely psychological. Maybe some brain structures are more susceptible to whatever stimulus causes the fetish, but I can't see any reason to believe it's encoded in our DNA.

I'm a firm believer there is....or that we're at least predisposed to it without ever having to be "conditioned" to enjoy it.

I have an uncle who's a tickle fetishist, and I've passed it on to my daughter. We have reason to suspect Lazzy's Dad may be a tickle fetishist, and Lazzy has passed it on to one of his sons as well. He also has a younger brother who is an obvious tickle fetishist, and his Mom and other younger brother are both masochists and submissives.

So yeah, I think there's a pretty good chance it can be passed on genetically. 😉

Most likely it's a trait passed on by environment.

My grandfather had no temper, my father did, neither I nor any of my 3 brothers have tempers.

No there is no tickling gene.

I do think I was born with a tickling fetish, and frankly, I think I was already into BDSM when I was born too, it just took me till I was a teenager to actually realize these things. I know virtually nothing about pyschology, so I really can't comment much, but these things do seem like they were just always hard-wired into me, I didn't have to acquire a taste for it, the taste was already there.

Hmmm..

Thinking you were a certain way is a far cry from knowing you were a certain way.

I'll put it to you this way; I really don't have any doubt that predispositions towards certain tendencies were already part of my wiring when I was born. I think this, because I can look back at tickling/being tickled when I was little, and realize that on some level, it turned me on before I even knew what being turned on actually was.

Others can have the opinion that it's not pre-disposed or genetic all they want. But you're not going to change my mind. I firmly believe it is, and feel I see more than enough proof of that in my own experiences.

Predisposition is not genetic.

With all due respect, I disagree. And talking to a lot of the people here has just strengthened my beliefs in this regard.

Hmmm..

Which of these people besides me are either biologists or geneticists?

Mmm-Hmm. And if you truly were a biologist as you claim, you would know that science has neither proven nor disproven the existence of such a gene, and do not yet know whether many traits that make up our personalities are genetic or condition.

For some odd reason, you remind me an awful lot of a former member we used to have....can't imagine why. :ermm:

The plan is working perfectly! Soon, we shall number so many, no one will dare oppose us!

Bwahahahahahahahahaha!

This is something I have wondered about allot. On most topics I am a firm believer people are a product of their environment, hence the sayings 'Give me a boy before he’s 7 and I will give you the man' or 'As the twig is bent, so shall the tree grow'.

That said I have liked tickling since as long as I can remember (and I can remember 'tickling' things I did which I enjoyed as far back as being just 2). I can remember many more tickling incidents that happened through out child hood and as a ler I instigated them so they were not environmental factors forced upon me (although many were me being opportunistic). I can remember 'bondage' and tickling incidents from not much older too.

So although I would love to say I believe it’s down to environment, I can’t hand on heart say I would 100% believe it. If it is down to environment it’s from some environment factor that happens before memory in my case earlier than my memories of two which is pretty young I think.

But then it’s like why are some people gay? Why does the thought or tickling a soft pink foot of a girl turn me on whilst the thought of that same thing with a man totally repulses me? Yet women (and I know this is a sweeping statement so please forgive me) seem more happy to play with another woman. For example most 3 sums I am aware of are 2 women and a man and the times a three sum has been discussed with partners of mine it has always been with another women not another man and in the majority of those cases the woman was the one bringing up the topic.

Ok you could say the environment or peer pressure is what would stop a man having a three some with another man, but the chances are they would be keeping the 3 some a secret so its fair to say that’s out of the equation. I would suspect it is simply that the majority of straight men are more repulsed of the thought of being intimate with another man than women are at the thought of being intimate with other women.

Anyway my point is, it is at some level hard coded, although I do believe it can be enhanced and changed by environment. For example I know there are things that turn me on now that never used to in the past and vica versa.

Of course everyone is different so there is not ever going to be a one size fits all answer to this question.

Oh I absolutely believe it CAN be a result of enviroment or conditioning. I just feel that in some cases people are simply born with a hotwire for tickling (or feet, or being spanked, or whatever happens to flip that switch for some of us).

Mimi 🙂

Scientifcally there certainly is no proof of such a gene. My personal opinion is I certainly think I was "wired" for a desire to be tickled. I dont think i could change that desire no matter what. I am certain enviroment plays a big role as well but I definetly feel also many aspects of our sexuality are genetically controlled.

I'm so glad that I started this thread.
