Is this wishful thinking, or is AI getting better fast?

I’m writing about a video like this:

To be sure, it’s still got a ways to go — some of the eyes and hands aren’t quite right, the voiceover is obviously weak… and bugging me the most, many of restraints don’t make any sense as shown.

But overall, the bare bellies created by this version of AI seem so much more realistic than even 6 months ago. How long until YouTubes like this have none of those problems? And once AI can make the characters move realistically as a video rather than a slideshow, and the voices sound believable, I’ll probably lose my mind. 😎

At the rate this is improving, I’m guessing that’ll be happening in 12 months. Am I wrong?

No youre right. And with technology this advanced, there will be little need for lower tier actors or animators and whatnot. Models will lose their jobs, YouTube workers, etc.

So is the cycle of life. No sense in fighting it. Technology is bound to completely replace humanity eventually. I honestly believe the time will come where the norm is AI/technology created art, and human created art without tech will become a rarity.

As such, its value and demand will skyrocket. All I can say is, I guarantee Da Vinci and all of the other great artists are rolling over in their Graves.

AI is improving very fast. With quantum computers becoming better and better you can expect even further improvements.

While I agree that AI is advancing very quickly, personally, it will never replace the real thing for me...not just tickling, but everything. It can be nice to see your fantasies come to life, in a sense, with AI, but just the fact that you know that it isn't real is exactly what turns me off from it.

I'm glad people are there are getting some entertainment out of this stuff, but I'll never understand how this functions as an acceptable substituted for an actual video.

I believe the appeal is in the power one has over it. Instead of waiting for the scenario you want your creating it. This is going to even take over video games and music production. I was even able to play my bass and sing drop it into Suno and tell it what to do and it made me a produced song.

...especially given how much people scream about shit being fake.

Heh. Good point. I hadn't thought of it that way.

I've been making AI images for the last year. And there's some satisfaction in being able to make images of some of my ideas (I can't draw). But they never fully satisfy. Something working right is basically accidental, however good the prompt. And it always feels like it's just imitating a scene rather than showing it.

...especially given how much people scream about shit being fake.
There’s an immense difference between a video presented as fiction, i.e. where the viewers know it isn’t real — versus something fake that’s presented as real.

One is like watching a movie with actors playing roles, whereas the other is like a film calling itself a “documentary” but then you find out they were using actors.

In other words, the difference isn’t whether a video is “real” or not — it’s whether someone is trying to lie to me. A tickling model faking her laughter is lying to me. An AI video, identified as such, isn’t.

I don't know how many of the commenters here bothered to click on and watch the YouTube clip in the original post, but how easy would it be to imagine that same story in video form, instead of slide show form... as well as with realistic audio?

I'd just about lose my shit... and I think it's ~a year away.

Think about this as well when AI gets even better you will be able to mimic celebs or famous people or models without their consent, the audio and their looks will be a complete match. That day is not that far away.
