Or will be in February. The TVA decided to throw a whole lot of money at me to help them fix some people issues at one of their nuke plants.

I'll CERTAINLY miss the 5 winter storms we've had already this year!.

Mike

Welcome to the club. Now buy yourself a banjo and start badmouthing those Yankee dogs.😀

Oh, and congratulations on the TVA job, Tron.

YEE-HAW!

Meet your new neighbors!

Friends%20in%20Tennessee.jpg

As a person living in the south, I can attest that those people do not exist... except in the country, on Saturday mornings, at Wal-Mart, Ma in bedroom slippers and tableclothe, Pa in overalls, and Junior lookin' like Pa, returning to their farm not to return till next Saturday or the county fair.

Congratulations on your new job Tron. Maybe the weather's nicer out there but I'd rather shovel snow until June than deal with southern living! Not my idea of a fun thing at all!

Sorry southerners-you probably feel the same way about us northerners too!

Let's See...

I ust bought a 3000 square foot 3 garage, 4 bathroom 5 bedroom house and pretty much the sde of a mountain for 225,000 dollars.\

I can deal with that!!

Good grief, what a value. Out here where I am you'd pay $625,000 for a modest 3 bdrm 2 bath tract home. GAAAAAAAH !!

kis123, why is southern living so distasteful ? We get no snow where I am, so it might be fun for me for the first two days or so, but after that, no thanks !

Not about northerners, just city living.

Tron, welcome.

Let me try to clean up something,

I have nothing against southern living in general. Unfortunately, I've had problems with every person I know that came from the South. And if it's a guy, it really doesn't work. They just have views about women and wives that don't match my contemporary upbringing. We simply just don't mesh. During a brief stay in GA, I ran into someone in a restaurant that wasn't particular to waiting on people of color. I have no tolerance for that at all! I've also ran into a lot of anti-yankeeism from southern folks too. Maybe I just bring that out of folks-I don't mean to.

Tron, congratulations on your new career and new home. I hope it works out well for you.

As for the southern members on this board, please don't take offense. We all have our preferences.

AH ! ok. I've always been a left-coaster, thanks for the insight on how things work back there toward the right coast.

Tron, when I read your opening to this thread, it sounded like you were off on a TDY assignment to clean up some problems then return home.
Buying a place to live makes it sound a little more permanent.
Do us all a favor and clean up that nuke muy pronto.

Congrats.

Don't for a second think what kis said is how things work here. She's speaking for herself.

"They just have views about women and wives that don't match my contemporary upbringing."

Kis, as a black woman, I'm sure you don't like when the african american race is referred to as 'they'. That removes individuality. You just said the word 'they' when referring to southern men. I'm sure you meant the southern men you have had contact with rather than they.

I'm a southern man, and I'm respectul to everyone.

Welcome to the South, Neutron!

Although northern Virginia as a whole doesn't consider itself southern, it IS south of the Mason-Dixon line. 🙂

Generally speaking, we southerners are friendly, we like our iced tea sweet, and we call just about everyone "Hon."

Congratulations on your new job and new abode, Tron. 🙂

I am really hoping this is the last time I have to clarify myself:

I said it was my experience, not anyone elses. I also have family in the south and it's been their experience as well. If it happened to me, it's happened to others. No experience is exclusive to one person.

Please read the post again. "They" refers to the men I've had experience with, not ALL SOUTHERN MEN!! I don't know every man who lives in the south and it's ridiculous to think that I do. At the same token, you don't know every man who lives in the south, moves north and thinks he's supposed to dominate, manipulate, and basically control his woman and confuse that as showing love either. But I have dealt with several SOUTHERN MEN and have had the same experience-too much machismo for me, thank you very much!!! I don't like controlling men-that is my choice to feel that way and I don't apologize for that at all!! Don't try to compare this with some kind of race thing--you're taking this way too personally and way too far out of context.

Now that I think about it, the worst offender came right out of your state! On the other hand, my grandfather who was the nicest and sweetest gentleman I have yet to meet on this earth came from AL as well. If I ever found a man like him, I'd marry him on the spot! So see, I'm not REMOTELY attempting to label EVERY southern man. It sounds like that's what you're trying to do though.

You don't have to defend the entire southern region of men because of one woman's personal opinion. Sometimes you have to make like a duck and let it roll off your back if comments on this forum don't apply to you. If I commented on every racist and sexist thing people write around here, by fingers would be broken.

I'm sorry you took offense to the comment, and I already apologized and excused myself twice-I see no need to continue to apologize for how I feel about a particular subject matter. I gave an opinion, not an edict etched in stone. Are we done with this, or would you rather continue to drag it out and ruin Tron's thread? Of course, the choice is up to you.

Ok, let's get back on topic. I think all points have been made perfectly clear.

Good luck on your new job, Tron! When I think of the South, I'm always reminded of the "Witness Protection" episode of Family Guy...

"You're sending us to the South?!? Isn't that where all the black guys are real lazy, and the white guys are even more lazy, but they're mad at the black guys for being so lazy?"

😀

Well, your last two sentences seemed to be really trying to egg me on, but, I'll just let this all go.

:wow: :wow: 😕 😕 :yowzer: :yowzer:

It's a shame I practically wrote an entire dissertation and it got reduced to two sentences. Okay, I'll just let this all go as well.

lite...

Belive it or not, my originl dream job was in Virginia. First of al I wanted to go to Surry, then North Anna came calling. The trouble was I wasn totally convinced they really wanted a hard ass, plus the housing prices near Mineral and F Burg had skyrocketed.

A helped a female engineer who used to work at my plant get her dream job near her twin sister. She'd acidently killed an 8 year old girl last August and had no choice but to drive by the scene everyday. SO as much as I hated losing her I called in a favor from a guy in PA and got her foot in the door at a nuke plant there. He wasn't supposed to tellher what I'd done, but he ran his mouth anyways On her way out hehugged me and said check TVAs website, I hve a good feeling about something they have posted there, turns out Ms Debbie was clairvoyant.

I like the south. When I was in the military I liked Southern People, and always enjoyed my trips to the South.

Chattanooga is beatiful, low cost of living, no state income tax nd th lowest propetry taxes in the USA. All my moving expenses are bing paid, and Im being reimbursed for my closing costs on BOTH the house I sold and the one I bought.

Tron

Ok all yall yankees stop bad mouthing us before we come up there and kick your asses again. (oh wait did we lose that war) lol Anyways im from Alabama and im not racist or sexist. I do hate those dirty yankee bastards though. I mean hell they burned the south and then blamed the war on us. lol

Anyways I grew up in the city, that most people would call a ghetto, with alot of black folks so Im not racist at all. It does offend me a little when people act like everyone from the south is an uneducated, insesed, chicken feed, white bread redneck. (only half of us are)

So let me clear this up. I haven't had sex with my sister. I have never shot a dear. I have only dipped once and hated it. I have never been abducted by aliens. I have never hung a "nigger". I do not own a chia pet. I have never rode a horse in my bedsheets. I have never burned a cross, and I did graduate high school. (it just took 15 years) lol.

Congradulations on the job opertunity and the move. Hope you like it.

p.s.(ycho) I just realized that I posted an entire rante and what I replied to say to start with was just two sentences at the end.

This is for all the southern men I have obviously offended:

I called no one a redneck! That is stereotypical at its absolute worst. Not everyone fits any specific mold. I've had problems dating men from the south. That does NOT mean that every southern man behaves the same. I wish I met and dated some of you, then maybe my opinion would be different. As for now, my opinion is just that, my opinion. I will not back away from it or water it down. I will say it is not a blanket statement meant to qualify all southern guys. I NEVER meant it to be that way!

I really hope this clears things up. If not, I apologize and we'll just have to agree to disagree. I really did not mean to offend, but I am entitled to my opinion just like anyone else.

oh I'm so glad to see this thread....

I just seen some bad news on TV about a Nuke plant in Monroe, MI and was praying it wasn't yours.

Congrats Tron. You deserve it!!

Yes 🙁

The plnt in Newport is my plant They started having a high leak rate into thir containment, indicating some sort of leak from a pipe connected to the reactor. Over a minute period the lakrate tripled. Above a certain leak rate we are required to shutdown but they correctly did not wait till we got there. The Shift that was on decided to insert a fast shutdown signal. The reactor shutdown in 3 seconds. It'll be tomorrow before someone will be abl to see exactly what caused the leak. That's because we inert the containment with nitrogen in order to prevent fires, it takes a bit of time to get the nitrogen out, and of course we want to make sure there's no steam prior to getting someone in there. I still wok there the next 3 weeks. I'll get home from Tennessee tomorrow afternoon, and most likely be the first person in the containment.

While this isn't good, it does show there are lot's of built in contingencies and why they train the fuck out of us.

I hope you enjoy the southern living, Neutron. If you haven't already (from your time in the service), check out Ruby Falls and Lookout Mountain there near chatanooga. Gatlinburg is also a very fun place with all kinds of shops and entertainment venues. Pigeon Forge and Dolly World are tons of fun too. And, one of the coolest things, is that Tennessee is absolutely loaded with georgeous ladies.

Now, just a brief word concerning the southern 'offended'. I think it's rather unbelievable that people can be so anally retentive and thin skinned. I mean really, do you actually *care* about the opinions of people so much that you become offended?

I don't find Kis's opinion offensive in the least and I was raised/lived in Georgia until I was 35. In fact, Kis has been nothing but polite and respectful to me. If she *does* think I'm a kuntry bumpkin, hell, I don't care because she shows me nothing but respect, and if she didn't, I'd simply ignore her. I certainly wouldn't waste my time and energy being offended. It's just her personal experience she's relating.

Hell, some people don't care to talk to me because of my southern drawl, and I'll be honest, some types of northern accents become like nails on a chalkboard to me after a while. That's not very 'rational', but it's not something that I can just wave a wand and have disappear.

We all have opinions based on our experience, and many are not all that rational, but, that still doesn't invalidate them.

Now, to "dispel" the southern myths.. no, I would not have porked my sister, even if she hadn't moved out before before I reached puberty, she's just too damn ugly. All cute cousins, however, are fair game. I *do* attend family reunions to get new numbers for my little black book. I thought "The Nutcracker" was something to be done from the High Dive, etc etc.. 🙂

Shoot-I almost feel vindicated!!!! I've come to the conclusion that I'm going to offend someone once in awhile. My intention is never to intentionally offend anyone. This should be obvious to those who know that I'm a black female of large size with a mentally handicapped child. That pretty much runs the gammut, doesn't it? I'm in the least position to intentionally be offensive to anyone. Thanks for the comments TD-I appreciate it.
