Just a note to say that I really like Jimmy Buffet.

😀

You just cannot listen to the man's music without smiling and feeling like digging your toes in the sand with a cool bevvie in your dirty little paws.

Favorites? Lines? Songs? Lyrics?
Joby

At the moment, I'm thinking....
----------

Some of it's tragic, but some of it's magic.

----------

Just a semi normal person
Thought he had the future planned
Then he won some silly sweepstakes
Now he had a hundred grand
Never stopped to think of taxes
He was gone before they knew
With a flair for old romantics
To the Orient he flew

When they fueled in Papeete
Place a call to Big Mamou
With an honest explanation
Just to tell the whole damn truth
It's his one chance in a million
Who'd deny the simple fact
Twas no use to talk it over
He'd be home when he got back

Now he's somewhere over China
Lookin' down on all the trails
On the mountains lookin' back at him
It's a real live fairy tale
Put a little distance
Between causes and effects
Like a day old fortune cookie
Askin' who or what comes next

What the hell did Marco Polo think
When he ran into the wall
Or the crazy flying tigers
Doin' spins and loops and stalls
Just a taste for something different
Perking up a boring day
Now our man from Louisiana
Feels exactly the same way

They're all somewhere over China
Shanghai or old Peking
On a plane or a boat in an envelope
Real adventure has it's ring
Just to put a little distance
Between fact and fantasy
Still six thousand miles away from
where I really want to be
How I would love to drive the shuttle
Just to feel the engines roar
And to operate the levers
That control the payload doors
I could buzz the Himalayas
Barrel roll above Hong Kong
Set her down in San Francisco
To the clanging of the gong

We're all somewhere over China
Headin' east of headin' west
Takin' time to live a little
Flying so far from the nest
Just to put a little distance
Between causes and effects
Like an ancient fortune teller
Knowin' who and what comes next

My occupational hazard is...my occupation's just not around. 😉

Hey Parrothead!!!! 🙂

I'll have to send you pics of my basement bar (margaritaville all the way!)

Love the music, play it on guitar all the time! I listen to everything he plays! Been to his place twice and going back soon!

I'll post more cause I'm headed to work but great thread!!! 🙂

"A Pirate Looks at Forty"...

Just one of many favorites. 🙂

Like Stitch, I've also been to Magaritaville twice, and been to many, many Buffet concerts (occasionally in an altered state, though that was long ago and far away :smilestar ).

*lite, floating off to work, songs in her heart, thinking JoBelle is way f*****g cool*

ah, I love Buffet...my love of the music started back in my mid twenties as I was heading off on a Windjammer Cruise, we would sail and drink to the man's music, it was a natural on a cruise of this nature. We even landed in St. Barts where his restaurant Cheeseburger in Paradise is. I wonder if it is still there.

I love his song Changes in Latitude....

I have a bathing suit that's bright red with parrots all over it. I call it my "Jimmy Buffett Bathing Suit".

Margaritavilla and the Bob Rivers Alter Ego, Marajuanaville

*strumming my imaginary 6 string*

some people claim that there's a woman to blame
but it's all my damn fault
.

Also for those into paraody songs, listen to the Bob Rivers take off, "Marajuanaville".

Wow, forgot about this thread until just now when it resurfaced.

Red, what you don't dig and the rest of us here do is a true American genius. 😉 The man made a life out of being a beach bum. Yep, margaritas, sunshine, warm gulf breezes and drunken screwing into the night. 😀 (It's just a love sing from a DIFFERENT point of view~!) 😛

I'd love to see your bar pics Stitch! That is one of my goals....to have a gaudy, outlandish, Carribean room to call my own. Either that or a back garden complete with beach chairs, a tiki bar and sand to dig my toes into!

Judy, there is supposed to be another Margaritaville opening this month. I forget where. Do you happen to know?

Know, old man...youshould model those for me! 😉 Lots of ticklish skin exposed when ya wear 'em?

You can find the best of Mr Buffet, a native of my neck of the woods at the parrtohead website.

Divine mood...yes yes....

"I knew I needed representation
and I found it one night in a bar
He was a bondsman and a part time agent
And he said that he would make me a star"

Joby,

Looks like the next one is opening in Vegas. There aren't any near me. I guess he doesn't like it way up north where its too damn cold right now!!! He'd be freezing away in Margaritaville!!

I really do have to get me to a Buffet concert one of these days...

Jobelle, Yes Diehard Jimmy Buffett Parrothead here too 🙂. I have
that 4 disk collection "boats, beaches, bars, ballads" along with other old albums and I
have many favorite songs of Jimmy but one that is dear to my
heart is "Fins" ,and I *love* the one I hear playing on the
radio recently that is a Duet with Alan Jackson "it's 5 o'clock
somewhere!".

In 1975 I went to see Frank Zappa and the Mothers of Invention at Maryland University's Cole Field House. The backup was some guy I never heard of named Jimmy Buffet, who ended up being pretty good, although radically different from the mainliner. The following year or so Marguaritaville was playing on the rock stations. In '78 there was a movie called FM with Martin Mull. Part of the movie featured a Jimmy Buffet concert. Over the next decade or so, I watched Buffet develop a cult following, nearly equalling that of the Greatful Dead.

I'm not a parrothead, but I do like many of Buffet's tunes. I particularly was impressed with his version of Stephen Stills' "Southern Cross."

Hi again

Yes, I too though this was a long lost thread. Just like Buffet though you can't keep him down, hehe. Hear his duet of It's 5 o'clock somewhere with Alan Jackson!

I love playing Southern Cross on the guitar, never liked the CSNY version but when I heard it on Buffet Live, wow, I can't stop playing it.

JoBelle, I'd love to send you pics of the bar/basement, you won't believe it!!! If you'd like to send me an email I can mail the pics, they're kinda large (I'm a buffoon with the digital camera).

Oh, check out www.cobo.org It's the best buffet page! 🙂
(and where I get all my guitar chords from, hehe)

Stitch

Heya Stitch.

Thanks for that link. Church of Buffet. Priceless! LOL

I'm PM you my email addy.

I've been listening to Feeding Frenzy all morning. "I just bought a water bed, it's filled up with elmer's glue." LOL Guess who's relaxing with her girlfriend Margarita tonight? 😀

Joby

I haven't thought about this for quite a while...

but on the day of the first Buffet concert I was supposed to attend (I think it was 1980), I ended up being rushed to the hospital for emergency surgery. I called the friend who had purchased the tickets and asked her to please buy me a t-shirt from the show.

When I came out of the anesthesia, all I could think about was the fact that I had missed the show!
