Does anybody watch the Judge Judy show?
It has been pretty quiet at work, so I have mostly been doing some filing & organizing with the TV going on in the background for some sound while I work. For the past 2 days I have had the local channel on that airs Judge Judy. What is it with this lady? She seems to hate both the plaintiff and defendants, cuts people off, refuses to see their point (not sees it and disagrees with it in legal or even common sense terms, but just shouts them down), makes fun of them... these people aren't laywers; outside of the ones who are truly trying to dodge responsibility or get away with something, these are folks "doing the best they can with what they got" within a system created and perpetuated by experts who went to special schools to work within this system to begin with.
She actually told a plantiff to move it along faster, she had things to do today.... no - THIS is what you supposed to be doing - judgin'! Keeping people on point makes sense. Creating, then enjoying, their discomfort is rather ugly. And so much of what she says seems more about her personal opinion than theories of the law broken down for the layman.
It's not so much the rudeness that bothers me, that's just a part of it. The fact that this is, or was, a legal authority figure, someone employed in the public trust who was elected (or worse, appointed) belittling common people, bugs me. I watch this woman and think... French Revolution.... Simon Cowell can be a jerk, but ultimately his comments potententially steer the targets of his barbs along to persuit more pragmatic things in their lives; besides, he doesn't represent or act as an ambassador for anything in an official capacity.
Wapner was never like this! A little grumpy at the most. While Judge Mathis, Judge Hatchett or Judge Larry Joe get a little antsy, there's never a cruel superiority within them spewing out. I can chose not to watch, and that's what I'm going to do.... but that won't change what she is and what's going on when I'm on another channel. What is her problem?
