There's a line at the bottom right corner of each post that reads:

Report this post to a moderator.

I've never used it, but as far as I know, if you click on that it will submit the post in question to a moderator and one or all of the mods can make a decision as to whether or not the post should be deleted, edited, etc. (If I'm wrong about this, perhaps one of the mods can clarify the procedure.)

By using that method, one can deal with a questionable post and the situation can be resolved privately.

Just FYI. 🙂

You're right on target. If the report post button is used, it will direct us to the exact post and you can tell us what the problem was that you had with it....flame bait, off topic, golden rule violation, etc. Heck if you just have a weird feeling about it's content, go for it. While we mods will see who reported it, nobody else will know. We'll take a look. If anything needs to be editted or whatever, we'll take care of it. If we think it can remain as is, it will. We don't bark at people for questioning things. So, don't be afraid to use it if you aren't sure of something. Since we all have busy lives, this actually helps us to keep the forums running smoothly.

Thanks for the thread, Lite. 😉

Let me just add that we ALL get copies emailed to us so the chances of a quick reaction time are greater than relying on one of us to find it on our own. Thanks for pointing out this feature, Lite....😀

Ray

Alternatively, you could give the mods a break, and use a little imagination of your own and come up with an appropriate response. I mean, come on. Aren't we a little old to be running to the teacher to tell on Jimmy for saying bad words in the classroom?

Actually, Drew we would rather be made aware of potential flame bait BEFORE it turns into an all out war so that we can monitor the thread appropriately... you are giving us more of a break by reporting it early than by letting the pot simmer...😉

Thank you, Ann and Ray...

I'm happy that we have this option in place, even though, as I said, I've never had to use it.

Drew70, I have a question for you. Although I'm not sure what an "appropriate response" would be to someone who is attacking/insulting/baiting someone else, I can understand your point of view; sometimes a simple explanation will suffice. Here's my question: What would you do if someone had a complaint about one of your posts? I don't see how there can be an "appropriate response" in that situation, especially if you are not told exactly what it is about your post that someone, for whatever reason, thinks is an issue.

That's why I think it's better to let the mods handle such a situation. 🙂

One more thing, Drew: Has anyone mentioned
POCCCKKKKEEETTTTTSSSSS!!!!!!!!!
to you lately? 😀

Just in case...

those in the back of the class didn't see this, I wanted to bump it up. 🙂

man oh please. A good bunch of you females can easily defend yourselfs without the aid of a moderator.

Hi Lite (I love saying that 😛)

Okay, what would I do if somebody had a problem with one of my posts? I would first of all hope that whoever it was would have the strength of character to challenge it directly, instead of whispering to the mods, which results in me having no idea who had a problem with it or why. Contrary to popular opinion, it is possible to challenge such posts and remain within the boundaries of acceptable discourse, constrained though they may be.

When my posts are challenged in this way, I respond in whatever manner in which it was challenged. If the challenge is respectful, so is my response.

Its the same in the real world. If you have a problem with somebody, do you go complain to somebody else without first trying to approach the individual with whom you have a problem? We're all adults here, hopefully.

Oh, one more thing.

POCKETS!!!!! 🙂

A safe place here.

Yeah, A, but why should we have to?

Unlike one or two of the so-called "adults" here, most of us do not thrive on conflict & nasty put-downs.

It's a relief to come to a forum where, though most of us treat each other kindly, the creeps who do not can be dealt with judiciously.

We love you mods! *kiss kiss!* Thank you thank you!

Button 😛

Yeah, I love the mods here too. They keep law and order around here. One question though mods: Where are your sheriff's badges???

Badges?

This sounds like a job for VenrayMan, Lord of the Jpegs.

Commonsense is my shield, justice my sword. Even and steady bereft of malice is mine eye. The Mods Credo

I like that! A lot! Is it yours Q, or are you quoting someone?

LOL Not bad, Q! Of course when the "bereft of malice" part doesn't apply (Hey, we're only human! 😉 ), we have plenty of others on the team to pass the ball to. When objectivity is out the door, our perrsonal handling of the thread goes with it. That's the nice part of having a team rather than only one or two people.

Yeah why not a pension and 401k plan! for especially in the chat room for dealing with all the insanity that goes on there.😛

I try not to pc anybody unless they ask me. I rather not be a problem. 😀

Original material...

In answer to Sole Seekers query. But likely paraphrased. I think it's a mish mash of the Pledge of Allegiance and Green Lanterns Oath with a bit of HP LOvecraft tossed into the blender...lol.😀 Q

You mods are the best!

Do you hold back until someone reports their distress, or do you sometimes read something and say "man, that guy's out of line" and deal with it right away?

Must be a challenge sometimes with the fine line, but we sure do appreciate you weeding out the malice. Thanks!

~Rose~

P.S. AphxA - no worries here, you are a delight 🙂 I've never seen you be anything but kind to everyone.

rose~there are times when my humor does get out of hand. I have once or twice crossed that thin line. But for the most part 4paws just swats me😛

To answer Rose's question:

If we see a post that is a problem, ora direct rules violation, we act on it at that point.

But we can't be everyplace and see everything that gets posted each day, so we rely on members to report issues. When reports come in we then take a look and make a call.
