If you are a fan of the movie Major League, you know the name Harry Doyle, the play-by-play man of the Cleveland Indians played by Bob Uecker. On Saturday, Uecker, at age 83, joined John Smoltz and John Buck in the top of third inning of game 2 of the NLCS. During the course of the conversation, Uecker took over the play-by-play and called the rest of the inning.
If you're old enough, you know Uecker as an actor in Mr. Belvedere. If you're like me and a bit older, you remember him as a color commentator for baseball games on NBC with Bob Costas and Joe Morgan especially on Saturday afternoons.
If you're older than me (and some of you are), you remember Uecker as radio play-by-play for the Milwaukee Brewers and maybe his playing days.
I'm not old enough to remember his playing or radio days, but hearing him call that inning on Saturday brought me back to my childhood watching baseball on Saturday afternoons with my dad. Great times.
