Kobe Bryant, what's the deal?

Kobe Bryant has just been charged with sexual assualt. This whole time, I've been scratching my head, thinking, "What the hell is the deal?"

First off, I have no idea who Kobe Bryant is, I don't have time to watch sports, because I'm always at work every night.

In every case like this, when a woman makes a charge against a man, the man is assumed guilty. If he is exonerated, he is still considered guilty by most people. That's just the way society works.

Here, everyone is backing up Kobe, some of the lady's old friends are on Fox talking about how she is not so innocent, etc. This is just unheard of in society, no one is supposed to attack the victim, no one is saying he is guilty. The prosecuter seemed to be almost sad when he was announcing the charges.

What is defined as sexual assualt anyway? Did he violently rape her, did he give her a back rub and did a bad job? The prosecuter was talking about a sentence of 4 years to life. Damn! This whole business of sexual harrassment and sexual assualt has always bugged me in this way: Once, in a town near mine, a lady was dating a guy who was a cop or a big wig in the police dept. He broke up with her. Then, she accused him of sexual harassment. The judge, miracously, said, "Sorry lady, it don't work that way." Or a lady consents to sex, but then gets pissed at the guy or whatever, and then throws sexual assualt charges against him, even though she wanted the sex as much as he did. Unfair, but that's life. But years, or decades behind bars, for that?

I just don't get it......anyone else have thoughts?

this matter is very disturbing. i, for one, am a big Kobe Bryant fan. i always liked the guy and i know he is a good guy. i know he didnt rape that girl, but what stuns me is the fact that he cheated on his wife. Kobe was one of those guys you thought would never do something like that. his wife is absolutely beautiful, and i heard a real down to earth woman. why he cheated on her i will never know.

as for this "girl". dammit, i know this woman wasnt "violated". she had consensual sex and she knows it. i hear other NBA players claiming they know who she is and she is a "groupie". i dont understand why her identity has to be secret. she is bringing to light a serious charge against a guy who has a clean reputation. Kobe isnt Mike Tyson. if his image is going to be sullied, so should hers.

granted, if Kobe had kept his "Mr. Happy" in his pants like he should of, this crap would have never happened. but why is it that people automatically think that she is right and Kobe is a rapist? i am against rape. anyone, man or woman, who rapes another individual should have their genitals cut off and handed to them. however, just because someone says they are raped, doesnt ALWAYS mean they are right. a "victim" can lie about it for whatever reason. money, revenge, etc. it is quite possible that after sex, Kobe regretted what he did, basically kicked the girl out, she got mad, and yelled sexual assualt. this case is going to be hard to prove. first, the girl has been claimed as an angel, but there are others who know her not to be so "innocent". there are those who say her past doesnt matter and doesnt need to be brought up. bulls**t. that woman deserves to have her past brought up, if it would help find the truth. she shouldnt be protected.

i truly believe Kobe is innocent of sexual assualt. i am upset that he cheated on his wife, but i hope this "victim" realizes what she did. no one will ever truly no what happened that fateful night, but rest assured, both of their lives will never be the same.

It's funny how we all can accept the phrase "nobody's perfect" then recoil at everyone's imperfections once they come to light. I'm not excluding myself from this group either. I think we all do it on some level--particularly when it's a public figure with an golden image.

Still, the fact is that NONE of Kobe and his wife's relationship--beyond his infidelity will likely ever be made public. That means that because the only thing we know about it is what Kobe was FORCED to admit, most people will implicitly assume at least three things: First, he was a great guy before, but now he's a different (i.e., worse) person somehow. Second, his marriage was great before he cheated and ruined it. Third, his wife was completely ignorant of the situation and has always been faithful to him and treated him well.

I personally am not certain of any of those things.

His big mistake was being human when the public expects perfection. Unfortunately, once you reach a certain level, there's too far to fall if/when you make any mistakes. Being a rich celeb must make you a lightning rod for extortion. Anytime you do something that doesn't fit your public image there's probably plenty of people willing to use it as leverage to control your actions and/or your fortune. (I suspect this is what his accuser is trying or has tried to do here.)

Anyway, this was a bit of a rant, but I have to ask what alternative human "imperfections" of his (or any "golden image" celebs) would we think were OK if they come to light. Getting into a drunken bar fight? Cheating on their taxes? DUI? Frequenting fetish porn sites on the web? Not recycling? Clubbing baby seals? lol

Just a thought.

Well i think they said that the girl went up to his room in the hotel. he probably figured he would get away with it, and she rated him out. I believe she was trying to get money out of him. It was a bad move for kobe. Should of just gave her an autograph!!

Being English I've never heard of Kobe Bryant, but I can really empathise with the public attitude towards men in cases of sexual assaul. Found guilt or innocent, the bloke is always tarnished in this sort of case. We have plenty of instances over here of women getting bitchy about something with a guy and deciding to throw sexual assault charges against a guy. I can speak about this from more than just a professional point of view, because the very same thing happened to my own brother. He went home with a girl from a club one night and while they were having sex, she started to bleed. Problem is, this woman turned out to have a bloody husband that she was cheating on and when she walked through the door with her legs covered in blood the enxt morning, she had some explaining to do.

Her response? Oh honey, I was raped! My brother spent the day in a cell and a month on bail while it was investigated and true to form, phorensics found no trace of sexual assault at all. No marks of violence on her, no signs of violence, no DNA under her nails where she'd tried to "fight" her supposed rapist off and no signs of injury on him where she'd tried to fight back. Of course some women when they're raped would'nt be able to leave that kind of sign, but there'd sure as hell be more evidence of it than there was. The local coppers threw it out without bothering to charge him, much to our relief.

Sexual assault and rape against people is a serious offence with a lot of physical and psychological ramifications. Having people, whatever their sex, cheapen it by trying to make excuses to their spouse or getting some cheap revenge is a damn insult to the people who have really had to suffer the indignity of it.

Whatever is the truth in the Bryant case, the truth will hopefully soon come out. It's quite possible the woman was trying to blackmail him because of his celebrity status and when that failed decided to make some cash out of the publicity.

Robbin Quiver's (From Howard Stern) reported the cops talked to some of the girls friends and on of them said she was bragging about having bedded Mr. Brant. Why is it when a cellecrity is accused of something half the people say "He/she is guilty" and the other half assume "He/she, is inocent."

I thought Koby might have been guilty because if you were going to nail a guy for RAPE why wouldn't you go after Shaq or Jordan. Plus I'd heard that there were bruises and ripped clothing and so forth. As for why most people will assume that athleats are guilty, because most pro-athleats are punks who think they are enttitled to have sex with a girl just because of who they are.

Why rape the one who says no, when there are 50 behined her who will say yes... because she dared to say No to this guy who is a famous, profetional athleat, and he can't handle the rejection. Remeber one thing, rape is about power, and taking controle of some one.It tares at the very core of the victome, normaly women, and you never fully recover from rape, it stays with you forever. The perpatraitore of rape could get as much as 20 years, but a survivor of rape get's life.

There's really no compelling physical evidence for either side in this case... It's basically her word against his. As such, the "trial" (if you can even call it that) is going to degenerate into a two-way character assassination-fest, and Kobe Bryant, being the defendant, will win by default... Whether he is guilty or not.


Either way, this thing is probably headed straight for civil court, a la the OJ trial. I'd say Kobe has a better shot in a civil trial than OJ did, though, since both he and the defendant have said they didn't know one another prior to the alleged incident. OJ's abusive history with Nicole Brown is, in my opinion, what cost him his particular civil case.

as for me believing in pro athletes, trust me, Allen Iverson is a thug. there are a lot of pro athletes who are thugs, break laws and should be punished. If I recall correctly you claim to coach football. Do you tell your players that because they're athletes that they're above the law and what society considers ethical and moral behaviour?
