The name of the band was "R. Crumb and his Cheap Suit Serenaders". They had a really interesting old-timey jug-band sound, and would frequently play vintage songs of the "blue" persuasion ("My Girl's Pussy" comes immediately to mind) as well as originals. I've only ever seen their output on vinyl (though Dr. Demento played cuts on his radio show from time to time), but I'd be really surprised if some of those albums hadn't made it onto CD.
Thanks Hungarian! Glad you enjoyed it! Are you familiar with the 1933 original film (I know it hasn't been as easy to see in recent years as it was when i was younger)? I'm using the boxing stance as satirical overstatement for parody's sake, but stop-motion expert Willis Obrien actually did have Kong throw a few rudimentary punches in the course of the Tyrannosaurus fight. He was a big boxing fan!
The original Kong has just been released on DVD. I give it my heartiest recommendation! It's a beautiful print, fully restored, with audio commentary by legendary stop-motion genius Ray Harryhausen; and the documentary extras are superb, as in-depth as you could want! Peter Jackson's Weta Workshop has even recreated a famous lost out-take from the film! I just can't say enough good about it!
