FORMER WWE STAR LANCE 'CADE' MCNAUGHT PASSES AWAY
By Mike Johnson on 2010-08-13 11:34:11
I am extremely sad to confirm that Lance McNaught, who was one of Shawn Michaels' first wrestling students
and worked for WWE under the ring name Lance Cade, has passed away at the age of only 29 years old. We are still working on further details at this time.

Cade was part of the original class of students trained by Shawn Michaels and Rudy Boy Gonzales at Michaels' Wrestling Academy in San Antonio, Texas, a class that also included Bryan Danielson and Brian Kendrick. Due to his lanky frame and athletic ability, there were comparisons to a young Barry Windham. Cade was immediately signed to WWF developmental after a few appearances for FMW in Japan and went through OVW and HWA.

Cade was brought to the main roster in 2003 to form a team with Mark Jindrak (now Lucha Libre USA's Marco Corleone), going as far as to work the Wrestlemania XX card as Jindrak's partner. Cade was eventually sent back to developmental and returned as Trevor Murdoch's partner. That team clicked a little better and eventually had a WWE Tag Team championship run.

Cade's most prominent run in WWE was as a second to Chris Jericho during Jericho's excellent feud against Shawn Michaels. In the midst of that run, however, he was released from the company after an incident on an airplane where Cade took too many painkillers and went into a seizure. The plane had to be diverted in order to save his life and WWE opted to release him.

The company eventually brought Cade back and had him under a contract for about a year, but released him without doing anything. At the time, Cade claimed in an interview with me that the company let him go because he asked for help due to personal issues he was having stemming from addictions to sleeping pills that he began using to deal with pain while getting himself clean. WWE did send him to rehab but Cade claimed at the time that it was unfair he was released "because" he reached out for help when that's what the Wellness Policy is there for. Sources within WWE, both management and wrestlers who worked with Cade at the time, scoffed at the claim privately.

Cade worked for independents and Japanese dates after his release.

Sadly, he leaves behind two young daughters.

On behalf of everyone associated with PWInsider.com, I'd like to express our deepest condolences to Lance's family and friends at this time.

Fucking weak.

Comfort, dont a lot of those wrestlers weigh 300-400 lbs? Maybe his weight was a strain on his heart. Andre The Giant died in his early 40s.

It could have been drugs. Then again, maybe his body just gave out due to excessive weight.

I doubt it was his weight that caused it. There are plenty of players in the NFL that weigh well over 300-lbs. He was a tall guy so he could carry more weight, but I don't think he was 300.

I agree, and plus they might weigh alot but they keep themselves in pretty good shape... and waying alot because you work out and get all those muscles and stay in shape won't cause you to die because of excessive weight. It's not how much you weigh that kills you, it's why you weigh that much.. like if you eat bad it might couse your heart to be weak but if you're working out and staying in shape and you're active, it usually doesn't cause you to die.

Here what this comes down to...

...the WWE has these guys working 300 nights a week, touring like mad men, and expecting some to work 52 TV taping a year, 12 of witch are right after Pay Per Views were they practically kill themselves in stupid gimmick matchs. They get hooked on pain killers because they are not given a sufficient break between shows, and if they take time off to heel when they do have a major injury McMahon Inc takes there spot away and gives it to somebody else. It makes me sick that I used to support this industry, but it makes me even sicker that other people still do.

Dead at 29, and in 5 years nobody, outside his daughters, will even remember who he was. Now that is a fucking waist.

Lance wasn't that heavy....he was built more like Barry Windham; tall and lanky (6'5"-260'ish). I hope I'm wrong, but am afraid what ended his life was what caused the seizure on the airliner; sleeping pills or a sleeping pill/ alcohol mix.

Those wrestlers all do roids, other muscle enhancers, cocaine, ect...... My guess would be drugs made his heart stop.

This 100% the only people who get to take breaks if they are seriously injured are the main eventers if you are a curtian jerker or mid carder and you get hurt you're pretty much done .

Thanks for the support 😀

When I was an apprentice tradesman people used to tell me to stay home when I was sick, even the boss. These guys get a concussion and if they take a week off they get a letter in the mail saying they are out of a job. Orton shows up completely fucked up from partying and he gets the main event. Carlito shows up fucked up from partying and he gets fired. Doesn't it make sense to come down hard on the top guys, so you can send the message that if you are a fuck up you will get your ass reamed no matter who you are?

I've got no defence for the nose candy, but the muscle enhancers I get. I don't think Vince has ever come out and said "Take roids or you'll go no where in the WWE" he is just to smart for that. However he does tell them through his actions. Look at who gets the big bet, look at who gets the main event matches. Check out the history of the big events and who headlines them.

Just because somebody chooses to go into a certain line of work doesn't mean they choose to be needlessly endangered, profit is no excuse to needlessly endanger somebody, and just because somebody does choose to needlessly endanger themselves doesn't defend people supporting it.

If Vince McMahon gave a real fuck about the Wellness Policy he wouldn't be forcing people to work three hundred days a year. It's a fucking disgrace. Slaves in ancient Egypt got more time off.

I haven't seen this on WWE.com. Usually, they'd mention it if something happened. Anyone have any proof besides the wrestling forums?

EDIT: After some research, I found the proof I was searching for. Sorry to hear that, he was a decent talent, one who would have benefited from a manager if he was back in the 80's. RIP.
