What a bizarre scenario. That feels like those Gamefly commercials where the Amazing guy is saying, "Don't do this." Cut to a guy being tickled by a bunch of guys in an alley. "Do this instead." And ... what? Bruce Lee-ing the guys and taking their wallets while his wife beams at him? Yes, that would be "more manly." And just as unrealistic.
Not to put too fine a point on it, but I think some guys have been tickled in public and they were embarrassed by their completely normal reaction and now carry negative associations regarding their own masculinity. Gotta be stoic. Brock Sampson wouldn't laugh. Gotta be Brock Sampson. Grrr.
If I was at a restaurant and saw a guy at the next table getting tickled by his buds (or his gf) I wouldn't think any less of any of them. I certainly wouldn't think the guy being tickled was any less "manly" -- just that they sure seemed to be good friends having fun and I bet he gets them/her back later.
