There is a commercial being played this post-season with Ken Griffey Jr. that says things like don't show up the pitcher, don't flip the bat, respect the jersey, don't showboat etcetera. Basically the unwritten rules of baseball.

The shift has been employed by the teams this year with regularity to counteract pull hitters. So my question is, if teams are going to do this, why not take advantage, bunt and get on base? Isn't that the general idea? If they're basically yielding one half of the field, why not take advantage of it? Why is it seen as taboo to do this?

I think if I were a manager, I'd take advantage of this situation 100% of the time, unwritten rules be damned.

I have often wondered the same thing, why more players don't just bunt to the vacated side of the infield and take first base. 😀
