My mom is still feeling very sick. Unless a miracle occurs by morning, we are going to have to take her back to the hospital in NJ! We spoke to the Dr tonight, and he told her to take two pain pills, and then if not better by morning, she has to go. The whole thing struck me as ironically humorous in a tragic way, as it almost sounded like "Take two asprin and call me in the morning". Dr B says they will likely admit her to St Clares. God Knows how long we will be gone this time. It probably wont be two months, but I can bet that if she stays a few days or a week in the hospital, we will also go back to the hotel for a couple of days at least before returning home. Sigh! I'm truly at my wits end! My mom is suffering, I'm suffering, and I wonder when things are going to get better!

I'd say its 99% that I'm going for at least a few days. I can hardly believe that we would have such luck for her to wake up in the morning, and feel better. Such luck we dont have.

Damn. Well, at least this time you have a laptop and hopefully some Internet access at the hotel.

Best wishes once again buddy. 🙁

Thanks. I'm not 100% sure if I'm even going to take the laptop. Its new as you know, and I'm feeling a bit.. paranoid. which I never usually am. I certainly
cant afford to shell out another $700 if it gets broken, lost or stolen, so I'll probably just leave it home.

Thanks for the good thoughts, pal, I appreciate it.

Mitch

I hope everything goes well, which Hospital? I'm from NJ i know some of the hospitals there

I can understand of being paranoid about a new laptop. Buuuuut it's a laptop. If you didn't want to move your computer around, you could have bought a regular old desktop which would have been cheaper.

You'll probably regret not taking it with you if you end up being stuck there for a while again.

St Clares Hospital in Denville, NJ, FL. Shes been treated up there since last June for cancer.

thanks, kurch, I appreciate it my friend.

Leo, I understand what you are saying. Probably if I was going to the hotel for several weeks like before, i';d take it, but what happens if I'm in the shower, or talking to someone, or in the mess hall eating. My mom will probably be sleeping much of the time,. She cant watch it, and like I said before, with all
the cash we've spent on the NJ trips the last two months, I cant afford to replace it if something happens.

I'm hoping I wont be gone longer than a week, I'll do as I did last time and check in.

Mitch

Lock it in the room with your mom and use the key to get it out when needed? *shrug*

your mom and you will stay in my prayers. Just take care and lets hope this isn't a long trip.

As per your labtop, take it. you'll go nuts if you have to wait for the hotel computer to be free. If your going to be out of the room, lock it in the safe or just close the door and make sure you take your key to the room with you so you can get in and out.

Thanks, Angel.

If I go today, I wont be going to the hotel. I'll be going to the hospital. We would stay there, and then knowing my mom, she would likely want to go to the hotel for a few days, to make sure she was okay.

I dont know whether I'm going yet, or what to do about the computer. We'll have to see.

Well I did take mom to the hospital, but not in NJ. Shes in Lancaster General.

Yesterday morning around 9, I emailed her Dr in NJ and told him she was feeling really sick. He told us she had no time to take a 3 hrs car ride to NJ, and ordered me to get her to Lancaster General immediately. So I called EMS and she was admitted. There could be several causes to her problem. Xrays showed growing pneumonia, thrush, and maybe, yeast infection in the lungs and chest. One cancer Dr from Lancaster who had pissed us off severely last
year in March when she was diagnosed initally, came by and was very nice.

She has burning and pain in her esophagus from radiation, and is on morphine every two hrs.

I dont know how long she'll be in. One advantage to her being in Lancaster is that I can come home every 2-3 days to be in the house for a few hrs. There was talk last night that after shes finished here, instead of going home, they would do ambulance transport to Denville so Dr B and Dr C can look at
her, but I'm not sure.

So, I'll keep everyone posted. Thanks for the support.

Mitch

thanks very much.

Mitch, I'm sorry to hear this. As far as taking your laptop, the hotel or motel may have a safe or secured room and you could leave it there when you are away. I would not worry about having it in the room when you are there. Hang the do not disturb sign on the door knob and the staff will likely respect that. If not, they should be reported to management. I hope everything works out for you both and your mother will feel better soon.

Sorry to hear that your mother has to be in the hospital again.

Thanks for the support. We had a scary weekend.

A lung doctor who was very cold in his diagnosis last year, came into the room one day over the weekend, and told us more than once that he was worried about a clot in mom's lungs. He wanted to do a VQ study, whatever that is, and pushed us. Two other doctors disagreed with him. So, mom refused the VQ study,.

Then, her kidney function began having issues. This is scary because kidney failure runs in our family, as my grandmother died of it. They are doing tests.

We dont know when she is coming home.

Thanks for the support. I just popped home to do laundry.

Thanks, GQ and Ann. Things are still very scary.

There are differing opinions as to whether my mom is to have that VQ scan for clots. Some Drs say yes, some say no. She really doesnt want to have it. Yesterday one Dr came in, and agreed with the Dr who said she should have it, and then this morning another Dr came in and didnt say a word.

To boot, even in times of trouble, my assistant/driver cant keep his fat fucking mouth shut.

On the way home today, he was like "You're lucky they dont throw you out of there, and dont make an issue of you staying over.". EVERY hospital, including St Clares, let me stay. I try to take a shower there once a day, since my mom has to take sponge baths. He was like "They should probably charge you for towels, and water you're using". He is just unreal to make issues out of this now. My mom refuses to take responsibility for anything, thinking she is perfect. Shes the reason he wasnt fired, years ago. I swear, if God Forbid she dies, the first thing I'm going to do after her funeral is fire him with no letter and no severance pay. Iam tired of his abuse, and having to be civil to him.

Sorry to rant. He is just unreal. Oh, and just so everyone knows, this guy, who I've posted about before, hates every group except whites. He has made derogatory comments about African Americans, gays, Hispanics, etc, etc.

I love my mom, but sometimes she really doesnt think.

I can see why there might be a controversy over whether she should have it or not:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ventilation/perfusion_scan

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Renal_failure <-----not sure if your mom is at this point with her kidneys....but filtering out the radioactive "technetium macro aggregated albumin" used for imaging sounds problematic.

In a tough spot. Understand the docs motivations for saying "yes" or "no". Opportunity cost at this point of life are much harder to calculate. Quality of life vs longevity are sadly too often mutually exclusive. I think your mom is valuing quality of life(the procedure looks like it sucks!) while the docs that say yes are on the longevity side. In the end though your mom can veto anything the docs say....they in fact work for her as she makes the executive decisions.

LOL at your ass-istant/driver. Sometimes people forget that their skills are highly dispensable in this new world that we are in. I know buddy's with engineering degrees that would drive you around if you paid them enough to just cover their bills. The guy is the one that is lucky. Next time hire a more agreeable attractive looking driver ass-istant!

It's bad enough that you're going through the roller-coaster with your mom's troubles without the buttwipe behind the wheel getting snide with you for, you know, being there for your mom. If the hospital doesn't mind your showering there, he should keep his opinions to himself.

I'm home for the first time in four days.,

Thanks, guys. My mom aired him out and threatened to fire him,. He apologized, so i'm not going to hold a grudge.,

As for my mom, she's still in, having stomach problems. So far, all tests show no clots, thank God. Unlike St
Clares, Lancaster General is a big, rich hospital that doesnt cave to Medicare. They've kept her in long, and run all kinds of tests on her.

I'm not sure when shes coming home. My guess would be by end of week at latest. At least I hope.

Thanks again. I'll keep everyone posted.

Mitch

Why don't you just drive her yourself?
Also, I would think you wouldn't need him anymore when your mom dies, so what would be the point of firing him?
You need to chill, dude.
