Hello. I'm a new TMF member (feel free to check out my personal ad), and I'm also a writer. I've published some short pieces, and now I'm looking for a literary agent. I have three completed novels I'm currently trying to market-- one suspense, one space opera adventure, and one science fiction vaguely in the tradition of THE DA VINCI CODE. I have also completed three screenplays. If there are any literary agents, novel editors, or editors with a need around, I'd like to hear from you. My email address is [email protected].

A book called The Writer's Market should be able to help you out. There is a new volume put out every year with addrsses to publishing houses, media outlets and (I think) agents. But the phone book of a major city would also have literary agents listed.

Best of luck with it! I have 4 short films scipts finsihed and ready to roll.... but funding, funding.......

Thanks. I know all about Writer's Market. I just thought I might meet someone here. Thinking out of the box, you know? 🙂

Don't blame you one bit! We all hide behind these names, you never know who is here....

"Steph" is actually Madonna, I hear tell.

You got your children's books published, and your photo book "Sex" published, why don't you help this guy out, "Steph" ??

Prolific...

Are you the second coming of Asimov or have you been squirreling these away for quite some time? That's a lot of material to be hoarding.

Good luck with your search. Writing is a tough way to make a living...lol...I switched to business long ago and now just write for my own amusement and to let the demon inside feed a bit in a harmless fashion.

I've been trying right along to sell my stuff and/or find a literary agent. I've been close a couple times. Hopefully, I now have a critical mass of work to show an agent.

oh OddJ!!!😀

Ok Greg, you might check with Ann~I think she's working on a book too. I have an on -forum friend who has a play, I'll see who he knows...🙂
XOXO

Qjakal, what have you done in the way of writing? Is there anything out there that the general public could read? I'd be facinated to see, and willing to show support in some small way like buying a book or magazine featuing the the creative endevors of another perver.... TMF member.

Greg and Q, what about the option of saving or pulling some $$ together and self-publishing? I know, easier said than done - but if the writing hits, you have more creative control and keep more of the profits while being able to "narrowcast" to your readiship through the best outlets. All of which you probabaly already know, but my God I love to hear myself talk.

Putting money away for your own creative endevor is slow and seems kind of bland, but sometimes that's what works best. It's what I am doing. Now, if it ever comes to fruition, I'll let you know.

Hi. I'm the on-forum friend Steph is referring to, so let me give this a shot.

Truth be told, I don't have any great insights on either novels or screenplays. I write stage plays, and my efforts to get a literary agent for myself as a playwright haven't gotten me very far. What I can say is this: I've found, as a playwright, that an important part of the process, which I'll admit is probably easiest of all for a playwright, is setting up opportunities for myself both to be a member of an artistic community and to test-market my work. I say it's probably easiest for a playwright because the main thing I do is belong to a theatre group, and when I've written a new play, I call up a bunch of actors to do an informal sit-down reading of it, and I invite an audience. When it comes to novels, it's probably harder to get people to read your novels and give you feedback than it is to get people to attend a play reading. As for screenplays, there are group forums for screenwriters, but I don't know where to find them because I'm in a whole other realm.

The thing is, getting a literary agent is not easy. Paradoxically, the literary agent will help market you, but first you have to market yourself to the literary agent. That comes of having some kind of track record, or of having work that will just knock the agent's socks off. For a track record, you might submit short stories around if you have any. For the screenwriting, why not see if you can hook up with independent filmmakers to get your screenplays done? Actually, when it comes to screenplays, I think I'd be most inclined to suggest networking with indie production groups, going for a production before going for an agent.

Good luck, and you're welcome to E-mail me if you'd like to talk further. [email protected]

Hey Qjakal, looks like we're neighbors, by the way. I'm in the city.
