areenactor said:my biggest complaints are; that no elves died at helms deep in the second book. and why drop tom bombadil from the saga?. also too much of eowyn. they didn't go into aragorns rule as king. the parts they used to make the third movie were over half way into the third book!
but it was already 3hr.20min, how much more could they have reasonably done?

The three-way relationship between Aragorn, Eowyn and Arwyn was an important part of the book, not really treated with great concern by the films. I thought that Arwyn was a strong character in Fellowship, but weakened over the last two. To be fair, Jackson had little to work with. In the book, the Aragorn/Arwyn thing is a long-distance relationship through almost the whole story. Eowyn's death should have been left intact. It made the end processional (with Eowyn standing next to Faramir in perhaps a subliminal "she'll be ok" nod) seem as if Eowyn took all the bottled-up love she had for Aragorn and decided "Ok, all's well that end's well and the better woman won." Not like her at all.

I feel that it will be fleshed out in the extended DVD, and I think that we'll see the Sauraman scenes if in fact (as Lee noted) they had been filmed.
