Oh, people noticed it. As the linked article points out the stench was reported and investigated. But if you look at the pictures in the article that flat would have stunk without a body. Given the fact that said body was hidden, I'm not that suprised it was missed.

This sounds like stories that I have heard over here where people keep the bodies hidden in order to collect Social Security checks.:sowrong:
 
well um, let me get this straight, make sure I understand... He took in someone to live with him, and since for some reason it's "illegal" when he found him dead (so he didn't actually kill him) he hid him instead of calling the police to report it?

Did he shit in his tub? That is one of the nastiest things I've ever seen. They said his toilet smelled awful, so he likely had it just covered in shit. I am so glad I wasn't eating when I read that article.

I'm about to go all letters to the editor here...bearing in mind that The Mirror is a shite paper, this man (the one who concealed the body) shouldn't have been left to live in that condition for such a long time. It's illegal in Scotland, and I'm sure it's illegal in England as well. I get the impression the inspector from the local authority did the bare minimum in reporting to the property managers or equivalent (again, The Mirror usually doesn't have much in the way of factual reporting), but he should've been given assistance from local mental health services. We'd be furious if someone with a physical illness was left to rot. So to speak.

I'd have to go back and read the article again, but I think he was afraid he might be charged with a crime if he called the police. Remember, the poor old guy has some mental problems.

Thanks luv, that's what I thought. Here in the US, unless someone is considered a threat to themselves or others there is not much that could be done in a case like this I think. It could be argured that his living conditions posed a threat to him of course, but I'm not sure how far you might get with that.
 
This is mild, when you consider what John Wayne Gacy had in, and under, his house...or, for that matter, Jeffrey Dahmer 😉
