Martha Stewart was found guilty on all four charges by a jury. I honestly didn't think it would happen. I thought she was gonna walk.....

this troubles me. this whole trial is ridiculous. the woman makes millions of dollars - she didn't need to sell that stock to avoid an immaterial loss, while at the same time possibly jeopardizing her own Company.

she does not belong in jail.

Hey now! Once we get criminal masterminds like Martha Stewart, Tommy Chong, Robert Downey Jr., and Howard Stern behind bars...the rest of us can breathe easier.:idunno:

This means nothing. She can take this case to a court of appeals

Sure she could. Make some nice centerpieces for some key people, and she's scott free.......

I'm no Martha Stewart fan, but this whole mess struck me as odd, too. The transactions in question were made to save Stewart less than $60,000, at a risk of spending somewhere around a decade and a half in prison... Either she's the world's biggest idiot when it comes to SEC regulations (which, admittedly, is entirely possible), or something's rotten in Denmark.

Why is it that violent crime is dealt with so harshly in this country, but white-collar crime is often overlooked? Only a truly classist society can excuse such prejudice. Let's not forget that even if Martha fails in her appeals, she'll probably go to a much nicer jail than the average petty thief.

Yeah, so did I.

Martha Stewart's going to jail?! :wow:

Well, I'll believe it when I see it. I think her sentencing is on June 7th, thereabouts.

I guess her bull-dyke cellmate will be considered a "severe companion". (Billy Crystal)

Cheers.😀

Rats!! And there goes all my Martha Stewart stock, down the tubes!!
:disgust:

well, what would you do if you found out that your stock was going down the toilet? You wouldn't have known at the time that the loss would be insignificant😀

maybe she should have her feet tickled for 7 hours straight as punishment:devil:

somehow I wouldn't relish the idea of tickling Martha Stewart

Im glad she is found guilty but uinfortunetly she wont see any jail time like she deserves..and if she did they would do a show bout how she remodeled her jail cell

Did anybody catch the opening skit of 'SNL' over the weekend? It was okay, but then they trotted out Horatio Sanz as Rosie O'Donnell and I absolutely lost it. I haven't laughed that hard in quite some time.

BOO MARTHA!!!!

I think that the verdict is a damn good message we are sending out to the celebrity community. For years, celebrities have been getting away with crimes on hardly a sentence at all, while people like you and me would have been thrown away for. Names like R. Kelly, OJ simpson and Roman Polanski come to mind. Child pornography, rape and murder are three of the most untolerated crimes in this country. Roman Polanski won about 100 Academy Awards and received a standing ovation in his honor even though he drugged and raped a young girl! A video was found of R. Kelly urinating on a thirteen year old girl, but yet he is still allowed to make albums and make money from them. Athletes are no different. I'm not going to start on OJ Simpson.

I also understand that some people will do anything to get attention or score a cool million from a celebrity. But celebrities are no different from anyone, and the justice system should treat them no different than they would treat anyone. Marth Stuart committed a crime, end of story. She should serve her time, and be slapped on the hand like the rest of us. I'm sick of them buying their way out of trouble. It's crap and our justice system SUCKS for putting up with it for so long.

The problem is not with the criminals, whether celebrity or common schlub. The problem is our discriminatory justice system that offers those with money to put on an expensive, well-acted play for their freedom while the common folk are left with a one-man side show act, and with a biased metering of sentences that's based upon the conservative objective of restricting freedom of speech and self-affecting behavior.

Is Martha guilty of lying? Yes. Should she go to jail for it? No. She's a liar and has engaged in a stock trade based upon her illegal knowledge of something, which she was privy to because of the money she has and the people she rubs elbows with. But who did she harm? Is this so egregious that she should be imprisoned? I think for someone like Martha (and I'm no fan) it would be punishment enough to remove her from her company and force her to resign from all of the company boards she serves on. The public trust would be served by knowing that she is not in a position to compromise the value of their stock. And why should the taxpayers have to pay for Martha's food and shelter? How is this, as one juror put it, a "victory for the common man?" I'm better off when she's growing her own dinner in her backyard in Connecticut.

I am seriously concerned with the trend in our society of forgetting that the punishment should fit the crime. Is the kid caught in his dorm with a sheet of acid guilty of drug possession? Yes. Should he spend ten years in jail as a mandatory minimum sentence for a first offense? Hell no. The same goes for Martha.

The desire to "make an example" out of anyone is inherently biased and defies logic as well as the constitution.

Isn't the real reason why people are salivating at the thought of her going to jail that she's a powerful and wealthy woman who exhibits contempt towards those who can't coordinate flowers and stripes?
Come on, you know what she'd think of your house!:couch:

I read an interview with a juror in the 'Star-Ledger' yesterday. Apparently, the Defense put up a lousy and unconvincing defense. Also, the presence of Bill Cosby and Rosie O'Donnell (who ran her big mouth afterwards) made some of the jurors think that they were being manipulated in some way. Imagine that...an intelligent jury.

I had an argument with my mother yesterday, too. She's one of those people from an earlier generation of women who are still enamored over a woman barreling her way forth in the Male Corporate World, forging an empire, and that if she was a man, that men like me would love her. I told her that this thesis was a load of crap, that I judge people for the kind of people they are. I told her that Martha, along with her other hero, Hillary, are both cold hearted, control freaking harridans, and that if Martha had any charm at all, she'd have gotten off. Instead, they saw her for what she was.

Here, we have two presidential candidates fighting to convince ANYBODY that they're both men of the people, regular guys, and we have Martha, the high-cheekboned, blonde, stiff upper lipped Hoi Polloi goddess who grew up in a big Polish family in a small house in Nutley where she wore passed down clothes.

Oh well. Now, they can consult her on how to redecorate the new license plates.

She lived in the next town over from me and I can tell you that there are alot of people in my neck of the woods who didn't like her, and with good reason. She used to take all the credit for the work her employees did for her, she used to get an advantage at the expense of someone else, she used to screw somebody out of something that rightfully belonged to that person, and she was overall, a miserable person to be around. If somebody told me the way Martha Stewart stacked firewood, I would do it another way because I wanted no conncetion to her whatsoever.
