OK,
So, in an effort to continue stepping outside of my comfort zone into things that I find interesting but scare my panties off...I signed up for Karate.

Anyone else into Martial Arts of any type?

Yep, I'll be hauling my fat ass around kicking and chopping and...😉 Now, when I say I want to Karate chop someone in the neck (one of my favorite lines when I'm agitated! LOL) I'll know HOW! WHOOOO~!~!

Hope I don't pull my tickle muscle!

Good luck with your karate, JoBelle. 😀

The best thing about karate is that all the women practicing it are barefoot. :feets:

...

I did some judo when I was a kid.
It complemented nicely my archery skills...

😀

Wrestling, submission wrestling and muay thai. Until I got hurt anyways. Kudos on finding a new interest!

Jobelle, you will excersize and stretch alot before learning punches, kicks, kattas and sparing. They will want your muscles warmed up so you don't hurt yourself while learning the very basics on your quest to move up to different belts. If you stick with it you may have no cause to poke fun at a fat ass because you will have a lean, trim, muscled ass.

Congrats on your new interest. I'd love to take Karate but classes are very expensive for what I have been told.

I like me martial arts I do; at the moment I'm into muay thai, boxing and MMA but in the past I've done a bit of everything, though I've never really tried my hand at karate. Unfortunately for me I read Bruce Lee's "Tao of Jeet Kun Do" before I'd had the chance to try out karate and his invectives against form and style and what have you put me right off the old kiaing funtimes (which is somewhat ironic considering one of his central themes is "exclude nothing", but hey 😀).

Congraturation to you on finding a new hobby, sir, make sure you're enjoying yourself and don't forget to only spar with people who are smaller, fatter or heavier smokers than you 😀

I studied under the great martial artist Bruce Lee. ok, it was only in my dreams. :bowing: i always wanted to do karate, but it was too much discipline. i basically wanted to be a black belt in three easy lessons.

I love all martial arts and I am friends with quite a few martial artists. Personally, I did Judo for a year, Karate for a year, Kung Fu for 3 years and Tai Chi for a few months!
I definitely plan to get back into it sometime in the future!

I can teach you to how to get a black-belt in ONE easy lesson!

Step 1: Get internet access (which you already have somewhere or else you wouldn't be on TMF lol)

Step 2: Go to either karatedepot.com or awma.com.

Step 3: Order a black belt from either site--make sure it's black, and not a dark blue! (although one or two styles DO use a dark blue belt in place of a black belt)

Final step: Recieve belt in mail.

Disclaimer: black-belt level skills not included.

It depends on where you go. Some places DO charge alot, others are cheap. And like any other service, just because something's expensive doesn't mean it's good...there's alot of "McDojos" around, where getting to your next belt just requires you to pay the monthly fee (in other words, training that's so easy, a caveman can do it! lol)

And JoBelle, karate chopping someone isnt that fun--now, giving them a spinning back-kick to the solar plexus and knocking the wind out of them...THAT'S fun! :bouncybou (Who's your instructor, by the way? It might be someone I've taken lessons from when I lived in MS)

Oh and martial arts I've taken: Taekwondo, Shotokan and Kung-Fu. Soon will either be adding Shootfighting or Kenpo Jujitsu(traditional Kenpo) to my martial arts.

Martial arts? You simply MUST drop Alchemy a line here on the TMF.....

i once trained in shotokan karate, judo, and capoeira. capoeira was one of the more addictive and physically demanding styles i was ever involved with, not to mention the most cultural. if anyone asked me what style of martial arts to practice in order to lose weight, limber up and increase endurance, i'd tell 'em "Capoeira".
