I wonder if I'm the only one disturbed as much by the foaming, psychotic responses to pedophiles as by the pedophiles themselves. I hope it's all hyperbole and venting, but sometimes I wonder.

They're dangerous, cruel criminals and they should be punished to the full extent of the law. Not "tortured slowly to death."

No offense, but aren't you over-dramatizing just a little? Why is it so important for you that everybody here knows how disturbing this is to you?

To me, it's a serious capital crime, like murder or rape, and should be punished according to the justice system. I've never understood how people can shrug off a murderer or rapist, yet all a pedophile has to do is gently fondle a kid (who in many cases probably has no idea what's going on and couldn't care less) to deserve the most vicious brutal punishments the imagination can conjure.

I'm not saying that's the extent of pedophilia. It gets much worse. I'm saying that's all it takes to turn a good chunk of our normally reasonable society into a stark raving lynch mob. Snap the fuck out of it, already. Punish the criminals to the full extent of the law. Nothing more. Nothing less.

Great point, Cav. Tell truth, there's a lot of manga/anime crap out there that seems like nothing but thinly-veiled pedophilia, I don't buy the intellectual argument that some have put forth that it is simply the "stylization" of that genre - shit looks like 12 year olds in little school girl outfits.

I agree LD, on all counts. While on one level I can understand the sometimes visceral reactions to unspeakable crimes like this, that is not and should not be how our justice system works. The founders were wise to build protection against this very idea into our constitution. I really don't care to live in a society that would sanction such a thing.

Because I think crimes of this nature are just as appalling when they happen to teens and adults. Also because I don't feel a need to make such a big scene over it to ensure everybody knows how badly I feel about it.

Mob mentalities have never solved anything, never improved anything. The technology that has served to aid pedophiles is also serving to aid the authorities in their search for them.

Castration is NOT the answer, as the first commenter opined after the story. It, in fact, has not affected the recidivism rate appreciably.
