Maury Povich:

I am sick at home w/the flu today (yea me) and am killing time and boredom by watching Maury Povich (something I seldom do, unless I am dying of boredom)

Most of his shows are DNA paternity tests and I have noticed two things:

1. The audience always cheers for the woman and boos for the guy.

2. If the guy is proven not to be the father, the woman runs off the set crying, and the guy struts and dances across the stage and the same people who were about ready to rip him limb-for-limb are cheering him and shaking his hand.

3. When a guy cheats on his girl, the audience boos him and cheers the woman for refusing to take him back

4. When it's a woman who cheats, and the guy breaks it off, the audiance boos him for not being more forgiving and giving her a 2cd chance.


Now granted this is all scripted and the producers are holding 'Appluse' or 'Boo' cue cards for the audiance, does it bother anybody that this blantant double standard is acceptable?

I've noticed all the same things. And I've also noticed that they boo the guys when their girlfriend's simply suspect that they're cheating, not truly knowing what their situation is.

The same goes for the paternity test. They'll boo they guys for denying a child is theirs even though half the time it really isn't their child.

I see you've given this a lot of thought--you must find other ways to cure your boredom than Maury!! Crap shows like his and Jerry Springer will rot your brain!

Sure there's a double standard; gotta' notice the demographic these folks pander to. There are people who think they're watching real life in these shows and unfortunately there are enough of them to be very convincing to the socially inept.

We're not going to catch all and bring them to the 21st century. Shows like Maury and Springer keep those entertained and out of our way.
