No, you're right. Other athletes have done worse. But since this post was about Michael Vick and it touches on me personally and professionally, I spoke out. I shall withdraw so as not to offend.
Please, by no means withdraw. Your opinion is just as important as mine's or anyone else's
I just get bent when someone says or infers that a person should not be allowed to practice their profession because they made a mistake. I believe in at least one second chance when someone screws up. He really screwed his life up and I won't argue that with anyone. But it's been two years and he served his sentence. He hasn't been able to work in the only career he knows for over two years and he's bankrupt. How much more does he need to suffer for others to say enough? Now if he gets reinstated back to the NFL and he does this again, I'll be the first one demanding his head on a plate! But please give the man a chance to recover and prove he's learned his lesson before condemning him permanently.
You're a vet and I think that's an awesome achievement. I've owned pets all my life and do love animals. But I don't think a man should suffer the rest of his life because he messed up anymore than I think a physician should suffer the rest of his/her career over a malpractice mistake. He/she should have the chance to redeem and move their career forward. If not, the rug has been pulled out from under them and all those years of education and hard work is flushed. Same with a professional athlete in the respect that they've worked all their lives to get to the top of their profession.
Give the man a chance. If he screws up, not only will I not argue about it, I'll be in the front of the line for his head on a plate.
