Doing a little more research here. This is a question aimed more towards those who are involved in recreational and/or professional body building.

How much mucles could a person gain in roughly three years, if they worked at it every day, taking suppliments, eating right, etc? I know that part of it also depends on body chemistry but i'm just looking for a general opinion.

well first off you wouldnt wanna work out every day , 4 to 5 days total and 1 to 2 days off rest time

second off it depends on your genes .... some people who have really good genes can put on 2lbs of lean muscles on there body in 1 years time

however some it takes longer , i assume your doing it naturally because allt he pro bodybuilders take steroids and HGH so they can build muscle and recover from workouts faster as well.

supplements are good but are no subsitute for good food so you wanna eat 6 smalls meals a day timed every 2 to 3 hours and want them to be rich in protein , complex carbs and EFAs * essential fatty acids*

like a good time to use a protein shake is after ur workout and before bed other than that u wanna get food meals in

a list of good sources of protein are

chicken
lean beef
steak
egg whites
whey protein powder * post workout *
Casein protein powder * prior to bed *

carbs
Long Grain white rice
grits
oatmeal
sweet/baked potatos
brown rice

EFAs

Natural Peanut Butter

Olive oil

2 lbs sounds really, really low from what i've heard. While i'm no pro, i've seen people working out and they have deffinitly gained more then 2 pounds of muscles after a year of working out.

Thank you though for the information.

yup 2lbs of LEAN muscle anybody who says they can build more is lying

The healthy average for a male seems to be around 0.25 to 0.50 pounds per week.

Or on roids...
Every day is a no-no BTW, your body needs at least a day of rest to build.
XOXO

###In my best Arnold Schwarzenegger voice###

NO...NO STEPH!!! IT MUST BE EVERY DAY!!! IF YOU WANT TO BE PUMPED, YOU MUST LIFT EVERY MINUTE OF EVERY HOUR OF EVERY DAY OF EVERY WEEK OF EVERY YEAR....AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGH!!! WHERE IS MY RAW MEAT?!? I MUST FEED!!! FEED!!!!

Hehe...but I digress:roflmao:

I wouldn't say that. Cosmo asked about possible lean body mass gains over a period of 3 years with good diet and exercise.

Now in fact unless someone is in very good shape to begin with, they're going to LOSE body mass over that period. But most of that loss will be fat. Their lean body mass will almost certainly increase by more than 2 lbs (1000 grams). After all 1000g/156 weeks is only about 6 grams per week, or less than one ounce a month. That seems a trifle low to me if they're maintaining a solid positive nitrogen balance and working out for hypertrophy.

8-15 lbs of lean mass seems like a reasonable target to me over 3 years. And that's nowhere near the range that steroids could produce. An athlete who trains for mass and takes steroids might put on 25-30 lbs of lean mass in that time.

Note to Cosmo: That said, muscle mass in and of itself is important only if you're aiming for competitive bodybuilding or trying to get into a higher weight class in a sport. Strength is only partly dependent on muscle mass, and fitness (of which strength is only one component) is even less so. It's possible to see dramatic gains in strength and fitness while seeing little or no increase in lean body mass.
